Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Hindi

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Hindi aims to safeguard the health of women & children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel – LPG, so that they don’t have to compromise their health in smoky kitchens or wander in unsafe areas collecting firewood.

The eligible women candidates from BPL families can apply for the scheme by filling up the Ujjwala Yojana KYC application form (in prescribed format).

The interested candidates require to fill the 2 page application form and attach required documents along with the form. The basic details such as Name, Contact details, Jan Dhan / Bank account number, Aadhar card number etc are required to fill in the application form. The applicants also need to mention their requirement of cylinder type i.e. 14.2KG or 5KG.

During this time

The number of LPG connections has crossed 4 crore,

LPG penetration in India has risen from 56% in 2014 to 80%.

The usage pattern of PMUY customers who have been in the system for a year or more and have been buying four or more cylinders a year. (Average cylinder consumption is 4.4 per year, national per capita consumption of 6.8 cylinders in 2017-18)

The programme has also witnessed the emergence of a peer learning platform: the Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat.

The adoption of LPG has received a boost with supplies ramping up and service improving. (In April 2014, there were 13,896 LPG distributors across, this number is now 20,227.)

Apart from these statistics, at the ground level, these PMUY subscribers are focussing on the value that LPG generates for them and not on its cost.

And also, the LPG Panchayats being held at village levels across India are helping more and more people appreciate the advantages of clean fuel.

So, the scheme has served its purpose and the government is calling this scheme as Ujjwala revolution

While distributing new connections is no mean feat, the greater challenge for the mission lies in refills.

HOW TO APPLY

• A woman of the BPL household, may apply for a new LPG connection (in the prescribed format) to the nearest LPG distributor.

• While submitting the application form, the woman needs to submit detailed address, Jandhan Bank Account and Aadhar number of all members of the household.

• The connection will be issued by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to the eligible beneficiaries after processing the application.

• In case the consumer opts for EMI, the EMI amount will be adjusted against the subsidy amount due to the consumer on each refill.

Brief Modalities Of The Scheme Are Given As Under:

1. Cash assistance of Rs 1600/- per connection will be provided by the Government for each New connection and shall comprise of following :

• Security deposit of 14.2 kg / 5 kg cylinder

• Security deposit of pressure regulator

• Suraksha Hose (1.2 M)

• Installation /demonstration charges payable to distributor

• Cost of issue of DGCC booklet

2. While the connection charges of Rs 1600/- will be reimbursed by the Government of India , OMCs would provide the option of EMI to interested beneficiaries towards the cost of stove and first supply of gas. OMCS will recover the EMI from the subsidy amount payable to consumer for each refill.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 1.05. 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh and subsequently the scheme was launched on 15.05.2016 in Dahod (Gujarat) by Hon’ble MOS(I/C) MOP&NG and was attended by Hon’ble Chief Ministers of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. After this several state & district level launches were conducted in Srinagar (Uttarakhand), Faizabad (UP), Sambalpur (Odissa), Lucknow (UP) , Patna ( Bihar) and Shahdol (MP) which were flagged by Hon'ble MoS I/c P&NG and other Central and state Ministers.

Under this scheme, 5 Cr LPG connections will be provided to BPL families with a support of Rs.1600 per connection in the next 3 years. Ensuring women’s empowerment, especially in rural India, the connections will be issued in the name of women of the households. Rs. 8000 Cr. has been allocated towards the implementation of the scheme. Identification of the BPL families will be done through Socio Economic Caste Census Data.
