Onam Kavithakal - Onam is an annual holiday and festival celebrated in Kerala, India. It is also a harvest festival, and falls on the 22nd nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam, which in Gregorian calendar overlaps with August–September.
Onam brings together a multitude of colours and flavours from across God’s Own Country, and the celebrations reach their apex on the auspicious day of Thiruvonam. Onam commemorates the return of a mythical, righteous king – King Mahabali and brings together communities across the landscape in unified revelry that is unheard of across the planet.

ജന്മനാട്ടില്‍ ചെന്നു വണ്ടിയിറങ്ങവേ
പുണ്ണുതോറും കൊള്ളിവെച്ചപോലോര്‍മ്മകള്‍
വായ മുലയില്‍ നിന്നെന്നേക്കുമായ്‌ ചെന്നി-
നായകം തേച്ചു വിടര്‍ത്തിയോരമ്മയെ,
വാശിപിടിച്ചു കരയവേ ചാണകം
വായിലുരുട്ടിത്തിരുകും അമ്മൂമ്മയെ,
പപ്പടം കാച്ചുന്ന കമ്പി ചൂടാക്കിയെന്‍
കൊച്ചുതുടയിലമര്‍ത്തിയ ചിറ്റമ്മയെ,
പന്തു ചോദിക്കവേ മൊന്തയെടുത്തെന്‍റെ
നെഞ്ചത്തെറിഞ്ഞ പിശാചി അമ്മായിയെ,
പുത്തന്‍ കയറാല്‍ കമുകിലെന്നെപ്പണ്ടു
കെട്ടിവരിഞ്ഞ കിരാതനമ്മാവനെ,
മുട്ടന്‍ വടികൊണ്ടടിച്ചു പുറം പൊളി-
ച്ചട്ടഹസിച്ച കോപിഷ്ഠനാമച്ഛനെ,
പിന്നെപ്പിറന്നവനാകയാല്‍ എന്നില്‍ നി-
ന്നമ്മയെ തട്ടിപ്പറിച്ചോരനുജനെ,
തിന്നുവാന്‍ ഗോട്ടികൊടുക്കാഞ്ഞ നാള്‍ മുതല്‍
എന്നെ വെറുക്കാന്‍ പഠിച്ച നേര്‍പെങ്ങളെ,
ഒന്നിച്ചു മുങ്ങിക്കുളിക്കുമ്പോഴെന്‍ തല
പൊങ്ങാതെ മുക്കിപ്പിടിച്ച ചങ്ങാതിയെ,
ബഞ്ചിനുമേലെകയറ്റിനിറുത്തിയെന്‍
പിഞ്ചുഹൃദയം ചതച്ച ഗുരുവിനെ,
ആദ്യാനുരാഗപരവശനായി ഞാന്‍
ആത്മരക്തം കൊണ്ടെഴുതിയ വാക്കുകള്‍
ചുറ്റുമിരിക്കും സഖികളെക്കാണിച്ചു
പൊട്ടിച്ചിരിച്ചുരസിച്ച പെണ്കു്ട്ടിയെ,
ഉള്ളില്ക്കലിയും കവിതയും ബാധിച്ചു
കൊല്ലപ്പരീക്ഷക്കു തോറ്റുനടക്കവേ
ബാധയൊഴിക്കാന്‍ തിളച്ച നെയ്യാലെന്‍റെ
നാവു പൊള്ളിച്ചൊരാ ദുര്‍മന്ത്രവാദിയെ,
പൊട്ടിയെ കൈകൊട്ടിയാട്ടുന്നപോലെന്നെ
നാട്ടില്നിന്നാട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞ ബന്ധുക്കളെ,
അന്നു ത്രിസന്ധ്യയ്ക്കുതന്‍ നടയില്‍ നിന്നു
വിങ്ങിക്കരഞ്ഞുകൊ ‘ണ്ടെന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കണേ’
യെന്നു തൊഴുകൈയുമായിരന്നെങ്കിലും
കണ്ണുതുറക്കാഞ്ഞൊരാപ്പെരുങ്കാളിയെ,
എന്നും മറക്കാതിരിക്കുവനല്ലി ഞാന്‍
വന്നു പോകുന്നതിങ്ങോണദിനങ്ങളില്‍.
