Shishu Dinam ശിശു ദിനം : Children's Day or Bal Diwas (as it is known in the Hindi language) is celebrated with great enthusiasm and gaiety every year. It is celebrated on 14 November every year as a tribute to India's First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Children's Day in India is on November 14th
Children's Day is celebrated as a tribute to Nehru. Nehru, fondly called 'Chacha Nehru' was born on November 14, 1889. He was known for his affection for kids. He also established Children's Film Society India in 1955 to create indigenous cinema exclusively for kids.
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ആദ്യപ്രധാന മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന ജവഹർലാൽനെഹ്രുവിന്റെ ജന്മദിനമായ നവംബർ പതിനാല് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ആചരിക്കുന്നത് കുട്ടികളുടെ ദിവസമായിട്ടാണ്. കുട്ടികളെ വളരെയധികം സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന വ്യക്തി എന്ന നിലയിൽ ലോകമെമ്പാടും ചാച്ചാജി പ്രസിദ്ധി നേടിയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം കുട്ടികളോട് ഇടപഴകിയ സന്ദർഭങ്ങൾ കഥകൾ പോലെ പ്രചരിച്ചിരുന്നു.
1857 ജൂൺ രണ്ടാം ഞായറാഴ്ചയാണ് മസാച്യുസെറ്റ്സിലെ ചെൽസിയിലെ യൂണിവേഴ്സലിസ്റ്റ് ചർച്ച് ഓഫ് റിഡീമറിന്റെ പാസ്റ്റർ റെവറന്റ് ഡോ. ചാൾസ് ലിയോനാർഡ് ശിശുദിനം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. ലിയോനാർഡ് പ്രത്യേക സേവനം കുട്ടികൾക്കായി സമർപ്പിച്ചു. ലിയോനാർഡ് ഈ ദിവസത്തിന് റോസ് ഡേ എന്ന് പേരിട്ടു, പിന്നീട് ഇതിനെ ഫ്ലവർ സൺഡേ എന്ന് നാമകരണം ചെയ്തു. തുടർന്ന് കുട്ടികളുടെ ദിനം എന്ന് നാമകരണം ചെയ്തു.
ശിശുദിനം പല തരത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും സ്കൂളുകളിൽ, കുട്ടികളുടെ ദിനത്തെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കാൻ പരിപാടികൾ ക്രമീകരിക്കുകയും നിരവധി തരം മത്സരങ്ങൾ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിൽ, കുട്ടികളെ അവരുടെ അവകാശങ്ങളെയും ഉത്തരവാദിത്തങ്ങളെയും കുറിച്ച് അറിവുള്ളവരാക്കുന്നു. ചെറിയ കുട്ടികളെ ആതിഥേയത്വം വഹിക്കുന്നതിനായി പിക്നിക്കുകളും വിവിധ കായിക പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും ക്രമീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
കുട്ടികളെ നയിക്കുന്ന റേഡിയോകളിലും ടെലിവിഷനിലും നിരവധി തരം പ്രോഗ്രാമുകൾ നടത്തുന്നു. നാലാം ക്ലാസ്, ആറാം ക്ലാസ് എന്നിവയ്ക്കുള്ള കുട്ടികളുടെ ദിനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സഹായകരമായ ഉപന്യാസം കൂടിയാണ് ഈ ലേഖനം.

Nehru was extremely fond of children and considered them to be the nation’s future. Nehru also played a significant role in the long freedom struggle to get India independent. Moreover, Nehru became India’s first Prime Minister after India achieved its independence. Hence, 14th November is not only commemorated as Children’s day, it also pays a tribute to the great and eminent politician and leader who fought for India’s independence.
The occasion is celebrated throughout India with immense fun, fervor and enthusiasm. Students are encouraged to participate in various activities, such as singing, dancing, story telling, elocution, painting, art and crafts, and so on. It gives all the children of India to enjoy the freedom of childhood. Many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) also organize programs for the poor and deprived children. These days, a number of special programs are aired on the television and radio for kids.
The answer is quite simple. Pandit Nehru saw children as the future. He believed in their innocence and their ability to choose to do the right thing.
For him, children were synonymous to innocence and he saw in them, the picture of the future. When you grow up to be what you dream of, you will be doing it well for your country too.
Your friends you play with, go to school with and meet, will all grow up and pursue their interests and dreams. It will be in all your hands to make the country and the world, a better place than it is. It was this strong belief of this man that lead to recognizing his birthday as the children’s day. It was this strong belief and affection that made children call him “Chacha Nehru”.
Children’s day is celebrated the world over. Other countries do not celebrate it as Chacha Nehru’s birthday but they recognize the spirit of children and their role in shaping the future. While the international children’s day is on 20th November and is celebrated in many parts of the world, many countries also celebrate it on June 1st.
There are other countries that still have their own recognized children’s day.
For example in Japan, children’s day is a national holiday and is celebrated on 5th May as well a separate children’s day for girls is celebrated on 3rd March.
The first children’s day in the world was celebrated by Turkey in the year 1920. In India, the first children’s day was celebrated in the year 1964, after Jawaharlal Nehru’s death.
No matter what date the children’s day is celebrated in other parts of the world, the importance and the hope in children is universal. It is you who holds the key to shape the future of the world. The first prime minister of India firmly believed that.
