 India celebrates Sarojini Naidu’s birthday as National Women’s Day every year on February 13.

 World Wetlands Day is celebrated internationally each year on 2 February. It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) in Ramsar, Iran, on 2 February 1971.

 According to the RAMSAR organization, “Wetlands are land areas that are saturated or flooded with water either permanently or seasonally. Inland wetlands include marshes, ponds, lakes, fens, rivers, floodplains, and swamps. Coastal wetlands include saltwater marshes, estuaries, mangroves, lagoons and even coral reefs. Fishponds, rice paddies, and saltpans are human-made wetlands.”

 Taj Mahotsav is an annual 10-day event in Agra. This festival invokes the memories of the old Mughal era and Nawabi style prevalent in Uttar Pradesh in the 18th and 19th centuries.

To mark the importance of some significant events, we celebrate the days on which these events took place. Other than this, certain days are celebrated to create awareness among people about important things in the world like awareness against any disease, poverty, etc. Such events along with their dates are especially important for those who are preparing for competitive exams.

Other than the above-said events, we do observe the “Safer Internet Day” on the second day of the second week of February. Every year February 10 and August 10 is observed as the National Deworming Day (NDD). The day aims at eradicating intestinal worms also known as Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH), among children in the age group of 1-19 years.

• Guru Ravidas Birthday:

The birthday of Guru Ravidas, who was a poet and ‘mystic’ born in Uttar Pradesh, is celebrated on a full moon day during the month of Magh. It is mainly observed in the state of Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.

• Lui-Ngai-Ni:

This is a seed-sowing festival. The festival marks the start of the year for the Naga people. During the festival, many Naga tribes converge at one designated place and showcase their rich cultural heritage. After Hornbill festival, it is the second major inter-tribe Naga festival.

• Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti:

The holiday is in honour of great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who was born on this day. The day is celebrated with a lot of fervour. People take out several processions on the occasion and dress up like the great ruler.
