myGovID at www.mygovid.gov.au is your Digital Identity and makes it easier to prove who you are online – it’s like the 100-point ID check but on your smart device. Use your myGovID to access participating government online services.
Here’s the general process for logging in with myGovID:

Go to the Service’s Login Page: Navigate to the login page of the specific Australian government service you want to access.

Choose Digital Identity: Look for the option to log in with a “Digital Identity” or similar wording.

Select myGovID: From the list of available Digital Identity providers, choose “myGovID.”

Enter your myGovID Email: Enter the email address associated with your myGovID account.

Get a Code: Click on the button to request a code. A 4-digit code will be displayed on the screen.

Open the myGovID App: Open the myGovID app on your mobile device.

Enter or Accept the Code: Depending on your app settings, either manually enter the 4-digit code displayed on the login screen or accept the code if it’s automatically populated in your app.

Provide Consent: Review the information the service is requesting and provide your consent to share it.

You’re In: You should now be logged into the government service.

To set up your myGovID in Australia, follow these steps:

Open the app and enter your details: Open the app and follow the prompts to enter your full name, date of birth, and a personal email address.

Choose the identity strength required: Select the identity strength you need. A Standard identity strength is sufficient for most government online services, including signing in to your myGov account.

Verify your identity: Verify your identity by providing at least two of the following Australian identity documents (your name must match on both):

Connecting your myGovID to your myGov account is optional. You can choose to disconnect at any time or continue using your existing myGov sign in option.

- flexible – you can still use your current myGov sign in option or myGovID, helping you avoid losing access to your account when using other sign in options

Before you connect myGovID to myGov
Before you connect your myGovID to your myGov account make sure:
- you’ve downloaded the myGovID app
- set up your myGovID to a Standard or Strong identity strength
- get Help if you need more more support.
How to connect myGovID to myGov
Go to my.gov.au and follow these steps to connect your myGovID:
- select Continue with Digital Identity
- select myGovID as your identity provider
- select Continue with myGovID
- sign in using your myGovID
- consent to sharing your information with myGov
- select Continue and sign in to your myGov account to connect your myGovID
- a message will display confirming your myGovID is connected to your myGov account.
Alternatively, you can connect your myGovID to your myGov account after you’ve signed in to myGov. Go to Account Settings, select Digital Identity and follow the prompts.
Next time you sign in to your myGov account, select Continue with Digital Identity to use your myGovID.
You cannot access your myGov account, Medicare or your COVID-19 vaccine certificate within the myGovID app.
Recover your myGov account using myGovID
You may not be able to sign in to your myGov account due to security codes because you:
- changed your phone number
- went overseas and no longer have access to your Australian mobile number
- deleted the myGov Code Generator app
- can’t answer your secret question.
You can recover your myGov account using myGovID. You’ll need to set up the myGovID app to a Strong identity strength.
Your name, date of birth and email address for myGovID will also need to match your myGov account.
To recover your myGov account:
- go to my.gov.au
- enter your username and password
- expand I didn’t get my code or I can’t answer my question
- select Continue with Digital Identity
- sign in using your myGovID
- update your mobile phone number in Account Settings.
If you can’t set up a Strong myGovID you will need to create a new myGov account and link to government online services again.
