Abstract

The main aim of this project to implement wireless utility meter reading system using wireless communication

The purpose of this project is to the measure the consumption of water, gas etc. of household utilities and to display this information on LCD

DESCRIPTION:

Utility meters are used to monitor the consumption of water, gas or electricity. They differ in terms of measurement technology and user interface. Utility meters with a standard register have a graduated dial and visible gears or wheels.

They are driven by a magnetic coupling between a magnet in the measuring chamber and a magnet at the bottom of the register. Many registers include a leak detector, a small disk or hand that is geared closely to the rotational speed of the drive magnet. Utility meters with digital readouts are also available.

In this project we are using this utility meters to measure household utility readings. From the sensors analogical data is given as input to the ADC. This device will convert this data and into digital format and fetches to the microcontroller.

Controller will transmit the data to the receiver part using Zigbee wireless communication. Receiver section will receive the data and displays the readings of utilities on the LCD

TECHNOLOGY:

Now a day's every system is automated in order to face new challenges. In the present days Automated systems have less manual operations, flexibility, reliability and accurate. Due to this demand every field prefers automated control systems.

Especially in the field of electronics automated systems are giving good performance. And this is realized by making use of Zigbee technology for communication. Zigbee is new wireless technology guided by IEEE 802.15.4 Personal Area Network standard.

It is primarily designed for the wide ranging controlling applications and to replace the existing non-standard technologies. It currently operates in 868MHz band at a data rate of 20Kbps in Europe, 914MHz band at 40kbps in USA , and the 2.4GHz ISM bands Worldwide at a maximum data-rate of 250kbps

By this project we can implement a utility meter which is useful for the measurement of water, gas and power using zigbee technology.
