If you’re a new Meta VR user, you can set up your Meta account Code at www.meta.com/device using your email, Instagram account or Facebook account.

To set up a Meta account as a new user:

  • Open the Oculus mobile app on your phone or put on your headset and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • You can also visit auth.meta.com to get started.

For existing Facebook users

If you currently use a Facebook account to access your VR device, you will need to set up a Meta account to continue using your device. Before starting the setup process, make sure that your headset is updated to at least v43 and that you’re signed in with your existing Facebook account. This ensures information like your previously purchased apps and existing data will automatically be associated with your new Meta account. Do not select “Set up account with email,” because doing so will create a Meta account that doesn’t have your existing apps and data. If this happens, you will need to delete your Meta account and set up a new Meta account using your existing Facebook account.

Once you’re signed into your existing Facebook account, you will have a choice to “Set up with Facebook” or “Continue without Facebook.” If you want access to connected experiences like finding Facebook friends or using Facebook features like Messenger in VR, you can choose “Set up with Facebook.” If you no longer want to use your Facebook account in VR, you can set up a Meta account with your email by selecting “Continue without Facebook.”

To set up a Meta account if you currently use a Facebook account to access your VR device:

  • Open the Oculus mobile app on your phone or put on your headset and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • You can also visit meta.com/setup to get started.

For Oculus account users

If you currently use an Oculus account to access your Quest or older VR devices, you will have until January 1, 2023 to set up a Meta account. Learn more about Oculus accounts after January 1, 2023.

You have the choice to update your Oculus account to a Meta account. Just make sure you’re logged into your current Oculus account to ensure that all your apps and data will be transferred over to your new Meta account and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Meta account.

After upgrading to a Meta account, if you want access to connected experiences like finding Instagram followers or using Facebook features like Messenger in VR, you can add your Meta account to the same Accounts Center as your Facebook or Instagram accounts. Setting up your Meta account with email

To set up a Meta account using your email address, you will need to provide:

  • Email: You can only create one Meta account per email address.
  • First and last name: We recommend using your real name in case you need to recover your account or manage your store purchases, but it is not required.
  • Birthday: You need to be at least 13 years old to sign up for a Meta account (14 if you live in South Korea or Spain). We use this information to help provide age-appropriate experiences for the youngest members of our community.
  • Password: This must be at least 8 characters. Avoid passwords that someone could easily guess. Learn more about setting up a password.

Your Meta account information isn’t public. You can manage how you appear in VR with your Meta Horizon profile.

After setting up your Meta account, you can add or remove this account from the same Accounts Center as your Facebook and Instagram accounts at any time.

Setting up your Meta account with Facebook and Instagram

If you choose to set up a Meta account with Facebook or Instagram, you will have access to connected experiences in VR, like finding your Instagram followers to play games with or chatting with Facebook friends on Messenger.

When you create a Meta account with Facebook or Instagram, your Meta account will be added to the same Accounts Center as your Facebook or Instagram account. You can always choose to remove accounts from the same Accounts Center or disable connected experiences.

NEW TO META VR

If you’re new to Meta VR devices, you can create a Meta account using an email address, Facebook account, or Instagram account. When you first put on your headset, you’ll get a code that you can use to pair your headset with the Oculus mobile app (available on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store). From there, you can continue with Facebook or Instagram or use your email address to create a Meta account.

If you use a Facebook or Instagram account to create your Meta account, both that social media account and your Meta account will be added to the same Accounts Center, which lets you unlock connected experiences like finding Instagram followers to play with in VR and using Messenger in VR.

If you create your Meta account using an email address, you’ll be asked to provide your name and birthday. Sharing your age helps us provide the right experiences to the right age group. You must be 13 years old or older (or 14 years old or older in Spain and South Korea) to create a Meta account.

Once you finish creating your Meta account, it’s time to set up your Meta Horizon profile. You’ll select a display name and a unique username. You can also add a profile picture.

Next, you’ll find a menu with three privacy options to help guide you through which privacy settings are the best fit for you: Open to Everyone, Friends and Family, and Solo. After you make your selection, you’ll have the opportunity to review and confirm that your individual privacy settings are set the way you want. If you choose to skip selecting your privacy options, Friends and Family will be selected by default.
