WWE NXT • Bron Breakker • Tommaso Ciampa • NXT Championship

When Bron Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship at NXT New Year’s Evil, he destroyed the old NXT Black & Gold logo.

Before his big event match against Ciampa, Breakker had a spectacular entrance that included kicking a styrofoam “X” in half.

Last September, as part of the brand’s refresh, NXT underwent a logo makeover. According to a rumour, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Senior Vice President Bruce Prichard were expected to be more involved in the revamped NXT. At WWE President Nick Khan’s Q3 2021 earnings call in November, he talked about how the company had fulfilled its goal of building a brand with younger and fresher talent.

On the first day of NXT 2.0, Khan commented, “We think everything is starting the way that we wanted it to start”. “As a result, we sought a more youthful, in-ring representative. There is no doubt in our minds that we have what it takes. Some NXT talent has already been promoted to the main roster. It’s going to happen more often.”

The Steiner Recliner submission hold was used by Breakker to defeat Ciampa. Pro wrestling great Rick Steiner came out to celebrate with his son after the match.
