As a visiting participant at New England’s Gillette Stadium, Tom Brady faces his longtime former coach, Bill Belichick, after 20 years, six Super Bowl titles, and 266 combined regular and postseason victories with the Patriots.

In Foxborough, Massachusetts, however, approximately 66,000 Patriots fans chanted “Brady” as Brady ran onto the discipline on Sunday night. It also didn’t stop Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots, from giving Tom Brady a hug when he arrived at Gillette Stadium.

Soon after the game, research showed the Patriots’ balls used in the first half were underinflated on several occasions. That sparked a lengthy league investigation, followed by a protracted authorised battle, which ultimately resulted in Brady’s suspension for the first four games of the 2016 season due to his involvement in the ‘Deflategate’ scandal.

When Tom Brady returned to the game in his old New England replica jersey, some Patriots fans wore it proudly, while others wore his Tampa Bay attire. Some, like Josh Nelson of Burrillville, Rhode Island, sewed the two together to create a Brady-Buccaneers mashup.

‘He’s well-read,’ I said. Nelson, a Patriots season ticket holder for more than seven years, declared, “I’ve been a Tom Brady fan for as long as I can remember.” Bill Belichick’s and Tom Brady’s recollections of their triumph will not be overlooked.

Bucs fans did not just jeer Brady and the team after they were penalised; they also howled in delight when he missed two of his first four passes. Only when Brady was sacked by first-year Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon in the second quarter did the roars get any louder.

Patriots fans were unimpressed when Brady surpassed Drew Brees’s record of 80,358 passing yards set in his final season as quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. However, the team celebrated the feat by posting a graphic on the stadium scoreboard and sending out a tweet.
