Shopify is currently experiencing a major service outage today, Monday, December 1, 2025. This is a confirmed “Cyber Monday” outage affecting merchants globally.
Here is the latest status based on reports from approximately 11:20 AM ET:
🔴 Current Status: Active Outage
Issue Started: Around 9:08 AM ET (approx. 2 hours ago).
What is Down: Most merchants are unable to log in to the Shopify Admin. Some are also reporting issues with checkouts and order processing.
Official Reason: Shopify has confirmed a “known technical issue” and stated their engineers are currently investigating. No specific root cause (like a cyber attack or database failure) has been released yet, though the timing coincides with high Cyber Monday traffic.

🛑 What You Should Do (and Not Do)
DO NOT reset your password: This is a server-side issue. Changing your password will not fix it and may lock you out further when the system comes back up.
DO NOT clear your cache repeatedly: This will not solve the issue and adds unnecessary load to their servers.
Check the Official Status Page: Monitor status.shopify.com for the “all clear” signal.
Pause Ad Campaigns: If your customers cannot checkout, consider temporarily pausing paid ads (Facebook/Google) to avoid wasting budget on traffic that cannot convert.
Is it just you?
No. Reports are widespread across the US, UK, and Europe. If you are seeing a “504 Gateway Time-out” or a “Service Unavailable” screen, this is part of the global outage.
