When Does the Elden Ring DLC Come Out : ‘Elden Ring’ Finally Announces ‘Shadow Of The Erdtree’

A few days ago, I was wondering when Elden Ring, which recently celebrated its first anniversary and 20 million in sales, will begin discussing its almost inevitable DLC plans.

One year and three days seems to have been the winning combination. In a recent social media post, FromSoftware revealed Elden Ring’s downloadable content, titled Shadow of the Erdtree.

The DLC is categorised as “expansion,” which can indicate a variety of things depending on the developer, but typically refers to content updates that are more substantial than smaller DLCs. I’m intrigued to see what value it brings, therefore I’m wondering whether this may be a $40 piece of material.

The above image and the name, Shadow of the Erdtree, are the only hints we have; the latter refers to the enormous tree that dominates the entire area and can be scaled later on.

Given the events of the game, it’s not surprise that the Erdtree seems shattered, burnt, and molten in the image; this suggests that the DLC follows the main storyline rather than being a part of it.

There are some mysterious ruins and what looks like a cemetery full of tombstones dotted around the countryside. Not ghosts in the traditional sense, when gravestones evoke ghosts through eerie ambiance.

Then there’s a solitary blonde riding a horned horse in white, who we can only assume is Torrent. As players can customise their Tarnished characters to look like anyone they like, this could be a player character, but it could also be a DLC NPC crucial to the plot FromSoftware is weaving. But, if it is indeed riding what looks like Torrent, it might just be the player.

ELDEN RING is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via STEAM.

The downloadable content will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam, according to a brief blog post. More information should be coming our way soon, since the report also mentioned that a “follow-up report is still a bit ahead” (Google’s translation from Japanese).

There are many reasons why the Elden Ring DLC is so eagerly anticipated. More than 20 million copies of Elden Ring have been sold around the world, and FromSoftware usually releases downloadable content for their games within a year after release.

Since its launch on February 25 of last year, Elden Ring has gotten only balance fixes and an upgrade that improves player-versus-player action in the game’s colosseums.
