WhatsApp Web Login : How to log in or out of WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp can be used on your desktop without a browser. To install WhatsApp Desktop on your computer, download it from the Microsoft Store, Apple App Store, or WhatsApp website. WhatsApp Desktop will only work on computers that meet the following operating system requirements:

  • Windows 8.1 or newer
  • macOS 10.10 or newer

For all other operating systems, you can use WhatsApp Web in your browser.

Download WhatsApp Desktop

  1. In your computer’s browser, go to the WhatsApp Download page, then download the .exe or .dmg file.
  2. Once the download is complete, open the .exe or .dmg file and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

How to log in or out of WhatsApp Web

Log in

To log in to WhatsApp on WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop, or Portal, you need to use your phone to scan the QR code.

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
    • Android: Tap More options.
    • iPhone: Go to WhatsApp Settings.
  2. Tap Linked Devices.
    • Android: Tap LINK A DEVICE. Follow the on-screen instructions if your device has biometric authentication. If you don’t have biometric authentication enabled, you’ll be prompted to enter the pin you use to unlock your phone.
    • iPhone: Tap Link a Device > OK. On iOS 14 and above, use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock. If you don’t have biometric authentication enabled, you’ll be prompted to enter the pin you use to unlock your phone.
  3. Select the checkbox next to Keep me signed in on the QR screen on your computer or Portal to stay logged in on this device.
  4. Use your phone to scan the QR code on your computer or Portal.
  5. If prompted, tap or select Done.

Note: The authentication is handled by your device’s operating system using the biometrics stored there. WhatsApp can’t access the biometric information stored by your device’s operating system.

Log out

You can log out of WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop from your phone, computer, or Portal device.

Log out from your computer or Portal
  1. Open WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop.
  2. Click Menu ( or  ) above your chats list > Log out.

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
    • Android: Tap More options > Linked Devices.
    • iPhone: Go to WhatsApp Settings > tap Linked Devices.
  2. Tap a device.
  3. Tap LOG OUT.

How to add or remove your WhatsApp account from Portal

Add your account

Note: If you decide to add your WhatsApp account, your contacts aren’t shared with Facebook, but instead are stored on the Portal device.

  1. On your Portal, tap or select Settings > Accounts > your name > Connect WhatsApp. You’ll see a code you’ll need to use to log in to Facebook.
  2. Open facebook.com/device on your phone or computer browser. If you’re using your:
    • Phone: Tap ENTER CODE. Enter the code, then tap CONTINUE > Confirm.
    • Computer: Enter the code, then click Continue > Confirm.
  3. On your Portal, check By checking, you agree to receive messages from Portal on WhatsApp.
  4. Tap or select Continue > Next.
  5. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
    • Android: Tap More options > Linked Devices > LINK A DEVICE. Follow the on-screen instructions if your device has biometric authentication. If you don’t have biometric authentication enabled, you’ll be prompted to enter the pin you use to unlock your phone.
    • iPhone: Go to WhatsApp Settings > tap Linked Devices > Link a Device > OK. On iOS 14 and above, use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock. If you don’t have biometric authentication enabled, you’ll be prompted to enter the pin you use to unlock your phone.
  6. Use your phone to scan the QR code on your Portal.
  7. On your Portal, tap or select Done.

Remove your account

  1. On your Portal, tap or select Settings > Accounts > your name > WhatsApp > Remove Account.
  2. Open WhatsApp on your phone or WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop on your computer.
  3. Open the individual chat with “Portal from Facebook” to view the confirmation code that was sent.
  4. On your Portal, enter the confirmation code, then tap or select Done > Remove.
