Turbotax Activate Login at Activate.turbotax.com : How do I Activate TurboTax Desktop?
To activate your installed Turbotax software Sign in to or create your Intuit Account. Enter your license code. Start using TurboTax. After you install TurboTax Desktop, you’ll be asked to sign in to your Intuit Account.
If you haven’t already, you need to first install TurboTax Desktop before activating it. This article can help you.
After you install TurboTax Desktop, you’ll be asked to sign in to your Intuit Account. Here’s the screen you’ll see after you install the product.
If you don’t have an Intuit Account, select Create an account to set one up.
You need an Intuit Account to use TurboTax Desktop for a few reasons:
- You can be confident you’re downloading and activating an official Intuit product.
- You can more easily install TurboTax Desktop on another computer because we’ll store your license code.
- Our experts can more quickly help you because they’ll know what product you’re using.
To activate your installed software:
1. Sign in to or create your Intuit Account.
- If there is a blank screen instead of a sign-in option or you are redirected to the sign-in page multiple times, go here if you have a Mac or here if you have Windows.
2. Enter your license code.
3. Start using TurboTax.
You can prepare and print or e-file up to 5 of your own federal and state tax returns with TurboTax Desktop. You’ll still be able to install the software on up to 5 computers owned by you (at home or at work).
When you create an Intuit Account, your TurboTax license code will be saved in your Intuit Account. Your software and tax documents you use to prepare your return will be saved to your computer like in years past.
Am I being transitioned into using TurboTax Online?
No. Your downloaded software will stay on your computer. Check the minimum system requirements (Windows, Mac) to make sure your computer is compatible. Your license code and optional product registration will be stored in your Intuit Account. To sign in or create an Intuit Account, you need an internet connection.
How do I install TurboTax Desktop?
There are two ways to install TurboTax Desktop:
- Insert a physical CD into your computer.
- Download the software from Intuit or the retailer you bought it from (like Amazon, Costco, or Staples).
If you bought the CD but your computer doesn’t have a CD drive, you can use the downloadable software instead.

Insert CD into Windows computer
Before installing TurboTax, it’s best to close any open programs, including firewall and virus-protection programs.
Start by putting the CD into your computer drive. It may take up to 4 minutes for the first screen to appear.
If installation doesn’t start after 4 minutes, follow these steps:
- Hold down the Windows+R keys to open the Run window.
- Select Browse, and then find the TurboTax CD on your CD/DVD/RW drive (usually Drive D).
- Double-click the setup.exe file to begin the installation.
Insert CD into Mac computer
Before installing TurboTax, it’s best to close any open programs, including firewall and virus-protection programs.
- Insert your CD into your Mac’s CD drive or double-click your TurboTax download’s .dmg file, which will mount a virtual drive on your desktop. The drive should automatically open.
- Follow the directions to drag TurboTax to Applications in the pop-up window.

Once you’ve received an order confirmation for your purchase, follow these instructions to download your TurboTax software:
- Go to Access my downloads and sign in with the same user ID you used to purchase your software.
- On Your TurboTax account, select Downloads.
- Select the version you want to download and save it somewhere on your computer where you can find it.
- Install your software by double-clicking the downloaded file.
If you don’t see your product in Downloads, go to the Intuit account recovery page and enter your email address to find other user IDs associated with your email. Your download might be in one of your other accounts.
Switch between Mac and Windows
- Go to Access my downloads and sign in.
- Select Downloads.
- Get the license code.
- Scroll down the screen until you see Did you order a TurboTax product that you don’t see listed above? then select Enter your license code here.
- Enter your license code from your CD or download.
- Under Which operating system do you use?, select the operating system for the version you wish to install, either PC/Windows or Mac.
- Select Get Download to download your new version.
