Steam Cloud Not Syncing | No Steam Logon CS2 Fix

There is no massive outage for Steam Cloud, but Cloudflare (which handles traffic for many services including parts of Steam) has been reporting intermittent latency issues today.

If your game says “Unable to Sync” or “Cloud Status: Out of Date,” here is how to force it to work, ranked from the fastest fix to the “nuclear” option.

1. The “Retry” Button (The UI Fix)

Sometimes the UI just gets stuck.

  • Click the “Cloud Status: Out of Date” text next to the Play button.

  • A window will pop up. Click “Retry Sync”.

  • Crucial: If it fails again, launch the game anyway. Steam will ask: “Download from Cloud” or “Upload to Cloud”.

    • Choose “Upload to Cloud” (Local File) if you just played on this PC.

    • Choose “Download from Cloud” if you last played on a different device (like a Steam Deck).

2. The “Userdata” Delete (Most Effective Fix)

If a specific game is stuck in a “Sync Pending” loop forever, the local cache file for that game is corrupt.

  1. Close Steam completely (Task Manager > End Task).

  2. Go to this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[YourSteamID]\[GameID] (You can find the “GameID” by looking at the game’s store page URL. e.g., for Cyberpunk 2077, it’s 1091500).

  3. Delete the file named remotecache.vdf.

  4. Relaunch Steam. It will force a fresh check of the cloud server.

3. Verify Integrity of Game Files

This resets the sync manifest.

  • Right-click the game in your Library > Properties.

  • Go to Installed Files.

  • Click “Verify integrity of game files”.

4. Toggle Cloud Off/On

  • Right-click the game > Properties > General.

  • Toggle OFF “Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud”.

  • Wait 10 seconds.

  • Toggle it back ON.

5. Firewall/Antivirus

Sometimes strict NAT types that block the specific P2P ports Steam uses for cloud uploads.

  • Test: Connect your PC to your phone’s mobile hotspot (4G/5G).

  • If it syncs immediately, your home router’s firewall is the problem. You may need to restart your router or disable “Safe Browsing” features on your ISP app.

“No Steam Logon” error in Counter-Strike 2

The “No Steam Logon” error in Counter-Strike 2 means your game client has lost its secure “handshake” with the Valve servers. The server knows who you are, but it cannot verify your session is legitimate, so it kicks you to prevent unauthorized access.

Here is how to fix it, ranked from the “magic trick” that works for most, to the hard resets.

1. The “10-Second Wait” Rule (Most Effective)

This is a specific quirk with CS2 and fast SSDs. The game often loads faster than the Steam Authentication Service can fully initialize in the background.

  • The Fix: Launch CS2. Do not click anything. Sit on the main menu for 10 to 20 seconds.

  • Why: This gives the “Steam Client Bootstrapper” time to catch up and verify your ID before you try to connect to a match.

2. The “Profile Sign-Out” (Forces New Token)

If waiting doesn’t work, your current session token is likely “stale.”

  1. In the Steam Client, click your profile name (top right) > Sign out of account.

  2. Close Steam completely.

  3. Relaunch Steam and log back in.

  4. Launch CS2 from the Library: Do not use a desktop shortcut; use the green “Play” button in Steam to ensure the hook loads correctly.

3. Verify Integrity of Game Files

This fixes the local file that handles the connection (often steam.inf or a specific .dll).

  • Right-click Counter-Strike 2 in your Steam Library.

  • Go to Properties > Installed Files.

  • Click “Verify integrity of game files”.

  • Note: It is normal for it to say “1 file failed to validate” and redownload it. That is usually the fix.

4. Clear Download Cache

If you recently updated the game, corrupt update data can cause this.

  • Go to Steam Settings > Downloads.

  • Click “Clear Download Cache”.

  • Warning: This will restart Steam and force you to log in again.

5. Is it Tuesday? (Steam Maintenance)

Since today is Tuesday, keep in mind that Valve performs weekly maintenance.

  • The Window: Maintenance usually happens around 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM Pacific Time (roughly early Wednesday morning IST).

  • During this time (or shortly before), you will get “No Steam Logon” errors regardless of what you do. Check steamstat.us to see if the Player Inventories or CS2 Coordinator are down.
