Previously a part of ESPN Star Sports with its operations based in Singapore, Star India took over the Indian business and relaunched channels under the unified Star Sports brand In 2013.

Since the exit of ESPN from the JV in 2013, the brand has shifted their focus solely to cricket showcasing Cricket related highlights day in and day out. Some section of viewers have also complained about the dip in creativity, graphics and quality of content after ESPN left the JV.
