Error code 60009 in Star Citizen generally indicates that Matchmaking is currently disabled. This is almost always a server-side issue (on the developer’s end), occurring when the servers are taken offline for maintenance, updates, or when the backend services have crashed.
Here is the standard process to resolve or confirm the issue:
1. Check Server Status (Most Likely Cause)
Since this error usually means the servers are turned off, your first step should be to confirm if a maintenance window is active.
Visit the Status Page: Go to status.robertsspaceindustries.com.
Look for Updates: Check for “Maintenance” or “Partial Outage” banners. If the servers are down for a patch, you simply have to wait until they come back online.
2. Restart and Re-Authenticate
If the status page says “Operational” but you still get the error, your launcher may have a “stale” connection session.
Close the Game & Launcher: Ensure the RSI Launcher is fully closed (check your system tray near the clock to make sure it isn’t minimized there).
Log Out: Re-open the launcher, log out of your account completely, and then log back in with your password. This forces a new authentication token from the server.

3. Verify Game Files
If a specific file related to networking or the lobby is corrupt, it can trigger this error.
Open the RSI Launcher.
Go to Settings (the gear icon).
Click the Verify button to scan and repair your installation.
4. The “Region Swap” Workaround
In rare cases, your account data can get “stuck” between regions. Some users have fixed this by refreshing their profile location:
Close the launcher.
Log into the RSI Website.
Go to Account > Settings > Profile.
Change your Country to a different random country and click Apply.
Change it back to your correct country and click Apply again.
Open the launcher and try to launch the game.
Summary: If you see Error 60009, do not reinstall your game immediately. It is highly likely that servers are down for maintenance or a patch deployment is in progress.
