Secure Boot & TPM 2.0 Not Detected | Steps to Fix

If you’re seeing the “Secure Boot & TPM 2.0 Not Detected” message , this typically appears when trying to install or upgrade to Windows 11 , as these are mandatory requirements for that operating system.

Let’s troubleshoot this step by step.

🔧 What does this message mean?

  • TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) : A security chip in your computer. Required for Windows 11.

  • Secure Boot : A UEFI firmware feature that helps prevent malware from booting.

✅ Steps to Fix “Secure Boot & TPM 2.0 Not Detected”

1. Check if your PC has TPM 2.0

  • Press Windows + R, type: tpm.msc→ press Enter.

    • If a window pops up saying “TPM is ready for use” and shows version 2.0 , then you have TPM.

    • If it says “TPM cannot be found” , follow the next steps.

2. Enable TPM and Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI

You need to access your motherboard firmware (BIOS/UEFI):

🔁 How to access the BIOS:

  • Restart your PC.

  • Press the BIOS access key repeatedly (usually DEL, F2, ESC, F10— varies by manufacturer).

  • Inside the BIOS/UEFI:

🛠️ Enable TPM:

  • Go to Advanced , Security , or Trusted Computing .

  • Look for TPM , Intel PTT , or AMD fTPM :

    • Ative: Enabled.

🛡️ Enable Secure Boot:

  • Go to Boot or Security .

  • Enable Secure Boot (you may need to disable CSM/Legacy Boot mode first).

  • In some cases, you need to select the “OS Type” as “Windows UEFI Mode” .

    • Press Windows + Rtpm.mscretype:

      • It should show TPM 2.0 present and ready to use .

❌ What if my PC doesn’t have TPM 2.0?

If your PC:

  • Has TPM 1.2 only : Not officially compatible with Windows 11.

  • No TPM at all : It could be an older PC or one with TPM disabled at the factory.

    • On some PCs, TPM may be firmware emulated (Intel PTT / AMD fTPM), but needs to be enabled.

🔓 Alternatives

If you cannot enable Secure Boot or TPM 2.0 , you have two options:

  1. Stay on Windows 10 (support until October 14, 2025).

  2. Install Windows 11 with bypass (not recommended) :

    • It is possible to remove the requirements via modifications, but this may affect security and future updates .
