The first images from Scream 5 have arrived, and they hint at yet another bloody, paranoid thriller set in a suburban neighbourhood. The upcoming film, simply titled Scream, aims to revive the Wes Craven-created horror franchise, and the first images from the production have been revealed by Entertainment Weekly. A year from now, on January 14th, 2022, Scream will be released in theatres.

A lot of phones can be seen in the new photos, a nod to how Ghostface usually calls his victims to tease them before committing his crimes (no pun intended). There’s also the trademark suburban backdrop from every Scream film, as well as a spooked expression on the face of nearly every cast member.

Nevertheless, Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, Marley Shelton’s Sheriff Judy Hicks, and David Arquette’s Dewey Riley are the highlights of the new images. Courteney Cox plays a journalist. Fans will recognise the four characters from the previous films as they return for a fifth outing. As the recently released Scream poster reminded us, Ghostface is always someone you know, so any cast member could be both a victim and a suspect in the upcoming slasher flick.

Roger L. Williams and Marley Shelton are set to return in Scream. Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison, Kyle Gallner, Dylan Minnette, and Sonia Ben Ammar are among the cast members who have recently joined.

The sequel to Scream will be directed by someone other than Wes Craven. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directors of Ready or Not, will instead helm the film, which their Radio Silence banner will produce alongside the project. Writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick collaborate on the script, which Kevin Williamson, a previous collaborator on the project, oversees as executive producer.
