The Sam’s Club app on iPhone has undergone significant changes by late 2025, primarily shifting toward AI-driven automation and “frictionless” shopping.
Here is the current status of the app, new features for 2025, and known issues you should be aware of.
1. The Big Update: AI Exit Technology
The most important change in 2025 is the integration of the app with the new physical AI Exit Arches installed in all 600+ clubs.
How it works: You no longer stop for a greeter to scan your paper receipt. After paying via Scan & Go in the app, you simply walk through the exit arches (“Just Go” gates).
The Tech: Overhead cameras and AI verify the contents of your cart against your digital receipt instantly as you walk out.
Status: This is now fully deployed. If you use the app, you essentially skip both the checkout line and the receipt-check line.
2. Core Features (iPhone Version)
The app (current version approx. 5.6+ as of late 2025) requires iOS 16.0 or later.
Scan & Go:
This remains the flagship feature. You scan barcodes as you shop and pay via Apple Pay, Sam’s Cash, or saved cards.
New in 2025: EBT/SNAP is now fully integrated into Scan & Go at all locations.
Sam’s Cash:
Your cash rewards are automatically tracked in the app and can be applied directly to your Scan & Go total with a single tap.
Curbside Pickup:
The “Check-In” feature has been streamlined. You park in a designated spot, tap “I’m Here” in the app, and the system alerts the staff. You generally do not need to call the store.
Digital Membership Card:
Many clubs have stopped issuing physical cards entirely in 2025. The app is your card; you must show the digital barcode to enter the store and at the fuel station (if not using Scan & Go Fuel).

3. Known Issues & Bugs (Late 2025)
User reports from late 2025 highlight a few specific annoyances on the iPhone version:
Forced Auto-Renewal: Many users report that the app now aggressively prompts you to enable “Auto-Renew” to access certain payment features or digital ID functions.
Wi-Fi Requirement: Some users have noted that Scan & Go occasionally fails on cellular data (5G/LTE) inside the warehouse, forcing them to connect to the store’s public Wi-Fi to complete a purchase.
Login Loops: Despite FaceID support, a common bug requires users to manually re-enter their password or verify via text code frequently.
Battery Drain: The app’s location services (used for “In-Club Mode”) can drain battery heavily if left running in the background while shopping.
4. Quick Troubleshooting
If the app is acting up on your iPhone:
Toggle Location: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Sam’s Club and switch it to “While Using.” The app often crashes if it can’t detect you are “In-Club.”
Connect to ‘SamsClub-WiFi’: If Scan & Go isn’t loading product details, switch to the store Wi-Fi. The metal warehouse roofs often block cellular signals.
