The application window for the 2026-2027 Romanian Government Scholarship is currently open. This is a prestigious, fully funded program offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for non-EU citizens.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship covers the entire duration of your studies, including:

  • Full Tuition Fees: Exemption from all registration and tuition costs.

  • Accommodation: Free housing in university student dormitories (subject to availability).

  • Monthly Stipend: * Undergraduate: 65 EUR

    • Master’s: 75 EUR

    • PhD: 85 EUR

  • Language Support: A fully funded preparatory year to learn the Romanian language (mandatory for Bachelor’s and Master’s).

  • Other: Medical assistance and discounts on local public transport.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Nationality: Must be a citizen of a non-EU country.

  2. Academic Standing: You must have an average grade of at least 7 out of 10 (or “Good”) from your last graduated school.

  3. Age Limits: Generally up to 35 years for Bachelor’s/Master’s and 45 years for PhD (though some 2026 updates suggest flexibility, these remain the standard benchmarks).

  4. Excluded Fields: Scholarships are NOT awarded for Medicine, Dental Medicine, or Pharmacy.


Application Process

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the official Study in Romania platform.

Required Documents (PDF format):

  • Diplomas & Transcripts: Copies of your degrees and academic records with authorized translations (English, French, Spanish, or Romanian).

  • Identification: Copy of the first three pages of your passport or national ID.

  • Birth Certificate: Copy with authorized translation.

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): In English or French.

  • For PhD Applicants: A letter of intent, research proposal, and a written agreement from a Romanian doctoral tutor.


Important Tip

For Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, the courses are taught only in Romanian. If you don’t speak the language, you must take the free one-year preparatory course first. PhD students have the option to study in English or French depending on the specific university.
