Rockstar Your Details Could Not Be Verified at this Time | Account is Already Linked

The “Your details could not be verified at this time” error in the Rockstar Games Launcher is almost always a communication desync between your local launcher and Rockstar’s Social Club servers.

Since you’ve been troubleshooting various game errors recently (like the DXGI and D3D issues), your system might have some “cached” connection settings that are now clashing with Rockstar’s security handshake.

1. The “Social Club Cache” Flush (Most Effective)

Rockstar stores your login “handshake” in a local folder that often gets corrupted. Clearing it forces a fresh verification.

  • Close the Rockstar Launcher and any Rockstar games.

  • Open File Explorer and go to: Documents\Rockstar Games.

  • Delete the Social Club and Launcher folders.

  • Restart the launcher and sign back in. (Don’t worry, this won’t delete your games or save data).

2. DNS “Handshake” Reset

If your ISP is having trouble routing to Rockstar’s specific verification servers, switching to Google’s Public DNS usually bypasses the block.

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet/Wi-Fi > Edit IP Settings.

  • Set DNS to Manual and enter:

    • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8

    • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and type ipconfig /flushdns, then hit Enter.

3. The Time & Date Sync

Rockstar’s security tokens expire instantly if your PC clock is even 30 seconds off from their server time.

  • Right-click the time on your taskbar and select Adjust date/time.

  • Ensure Set time automatically is ON.

  • Click the “Sync now” button under “Synchronize your clock.”

4. “Run as Admin” & Compatibility

Sometimes the launcher fails to verify because Windows is restricting its access to the registry.

  • Right-click the Rockstar Games Launcher icon on your desktop.

  • Go to Properties > Compatibility.

  • Check “Run this program as an administrator.”

  • Click Apply and restart the launcher.

If you are on Steam Deck

I noticed you’ve been looking at a lot of PC-related fixes. If you’re trying to play GTA V or RDR2 on a Steam Deck and getting this:

  • Switch to Desktop Mode.

  • Open the Steam Deck settings and ensure your Time Zone is set correctly to your actual location. A timezone mismatch is the #1 cause of this error on handhelds.

Account is Already Linked

The “Account is Already Linked” error is one of the most frustrating barriers in gaming, but it almost always boils down to a “ghost” connection—your console or Steam account is tied to an old, perhaps forgotten, game account instead of the one you are currently trying to log into.

Since you’ve been working through Rockstar and other launcher issues, here is the standard roadmap to resolve this across most platforms (Rockstar, EA, Epic, Ubisoft).

1. The “Incognito” Test (Fastest Fix)

If you are trying to link your account via a web browser, your browser is likely “remembering” your old, original login.

  • Do this: Open an Incognito/Private window (Ctrl+Shift+N).

  • Go to the game developer’s official website (e.g., Rockstar Social Club) and sign in there first.

  • Once logged in, go to Settings > Linked Accounts. This will show you exactly which Steam/Xbox/PSN ID is currently linked to that specific account.

2. The “Forgotten Account” Scenario

This is the most common cause. You likely have a second, older email address you used years ago to play GTA V or an EA game.

  • The system isn’t rejecting your request; it’s telling you that your Steam/Console ID is already attached to Account B (the old one), and it cannot be attached to Account A (the new one) at the same time.

  • The fix: You must find that old email address, log into that old account, and unlink the Steam/Console ID from there.

3. The “Unlink” Limitation

Be very careful with this. Many services (especially EA and Ubisoft) have a permanent link policy.

  • If you unlink a platform account from an EA/Ubisoft account, you may never be able to link a different platform account of the same type to it again.

  • Only unlink if you are 100% sure you are trying to reconnect the same original Steam/Console ID to the same account.

4. When to Contact Support

If you have lost access to the email for that “old” account and cannot log in to unlink it, you cannot fix this yourself.

  • You will need to submit a ticket to the specific game support (e.g., Rockstar Support, EA Help).

  • Be specific: Tell them, “My Steam ID [Insert your ID] is linked to an account I no longer have access to. I need to unlink it so I can link it to my current active account.”

  • Pro-tip: Include a screenshot of your Steam/Console profile page showing your ID, and a screenshot of the error you are receiving. This usually bypasses the first tier of “have you tried turning it off and on again” responses.
