If you are seeing a “Download Error” or having trouble loading SoundCloud tracks in Rekordbox, it is usually due to one of three specific causes: a subscription mismatch, a login token glitch, or rights management restrictions.
Here is the step-by-step troubleshooting guide to fix it.
1. Check Your Subscription Tier (Most Common Issue)
Many users confuse “Streaming” with “Downloading.” You cannot save SoundCloud tracks to your computer for offline use unless you have the specific SoundCloud DJ tier.
SoundCloud Go+: You can only stream live. If you try to “Store Offline” or play without internet, it will fail.
SoundCloud DJ: This is the only plan that allows you to download tracks (cache them) inside Rekordbox for offline playback.
The Fix: If you want to download tracks, upgrade to the “SoundCloud DJ” plan. If you only have Go+, you must have an active internet connection at all times.
2. The “Log Out / Log In” Fix
If you have the correct subscription but tracks still won’t load (or you get a generic “Load Error”), your authentication token has likely expired.
Open Rekordbox.
Go to the Tree View (left sidebar).
Scroll down to SoundCloud.
Click the “Log Out” button next to it (or right-click > Log out).
Restart Rekordbox.
Log back in to SoundCloud within Rekordbox.
Why this works: SoundCloud updates its security tokens frequently. If you haven’t logged in for a while, Rekordbox may think you are logged in, but SoundCloud is rejecting the connection.

3. Check “High Quality” Streaming Settings
Sometimes specific tracks fail to load because of an issue with the High Quality (AAC) stream.
Open Rekordbox Preferences (Gear icon).
Go to Advanced > Others.
Look for Streaming Audio Quality (or similar under the SoundCloud section).
Toggle it from High Quality (256kbps) to Standard (128kbps) (or vice versa).
Try loading the track again.
4. “Track Not Available” or Grayed Out
If a specific track is grayed out or gives a download error while others work:
Rights Restrictions: The artist may have disabled third-party streaming for that specific track. This is common with bootlegs or unofficial remixes.
Geo-Blocking: The track may not be licensed for playback in your current country.
The Test: Try playing the exact same track in a regular web browser on SoundCloud.com. If it plays there but not in Rekordbox, it is likely a “third-party API” restriction set by the uploader.
5. Firewall / Security Software
If no tracks are loading:
Ensure your firewall or antivirus is not blocking Rekordbox from accessing the internet.
If you are using a VPN, turn it off. SoundCloud often blocks VPN IP addresses to prevent region-hopping.
