Overwatch error BC-101 is a Connection Timeout Error. It means your game client (PC or Console) failed to connect to the Overwatch 2 game servers.
While this can sometimes happen during a massive server outage or DDoS attack, it is most commonly a client-side issue where your home router firewall or ISP is blocking the specific “handshake” required to log in.
Here is the step-by-step troubleshooting guide to fix it.
1. The “60-Second” Power Cycle (Do This First)
This clears the temporary cache in your modem that often causes timeout errors.
Turn off your PC or Console completely.
Unplug your Router and Modem from the power outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds. (This is critical; if you plug it back in too fast, the cache won’t clear).
Plug them back in and wait for the internet lights to stabilize.
Launch the game again.

2. Check Your NAT Type (Consoles)
If your NAT type is “Strict” (Type 3), your router is blocking the connection to Blizzard’s servers.
PlayStation 5: Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
You want NAT Type 1 or Type 2. If you see Type 3, you likely need to open ports (see step 4).
Xbox Series X/S: Go to Settings > General > Network Settings > Test NAT Type.
You want Open. If you see Strict or Moderate, you need to open ports.
3. Change DNS Settings (All Platforms)
Your ISP’s default path to the Blizzard servers might be congested or broken. Switching to Google’s Public DNS often bypasses this.
PC: Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings. Right-click your connection > Properties > TCP/IPv4 > Properties. Select “Use the following DNS server addresses”.
Consoles: Go to your Network Settings and choose “Manual” for DNS.
Primary DNS:
8.8.8.8Secondary DNS:
8.8.4.4
4. Advanced Fix: Port Forwarding
If you still get BC-101, your router is likely blocking the specific “doors” (ports) Overwatch uses to talk to the internet. You will need to log into your router’s admin page (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and forward these ports for your specific platform:
| Platform | Protocol | Port Numbers to Open |
| PC | TCP | 1119, 3724, 6113 |
| UDP | 3478-3479, 5060, 5062, 6250, 12000-64000 | |
| PlayStation 4/5 | TCP | 1119, 3478-3480, 3724, 6113 |
| UDP | 3074, 3478-3479, 5060, 5062, 6250, 12000-64000 | |
| Xbox (All) | TCP | 1119, 3074, 3724, 6113 |
| UDP | 88, 500, 3074, 3478-3479, 3544, 4500, 5060, 5062, 6250, 12000-64000 |
Summary Checklist
[ ] Check Server Status: Before doing anything complex, check the Blizzard CS Twitter to ensure servers aren’t down globally.
[ ] Power Cycle: Unplug modem for 60 seconds.
[ ] Cable: If you are on Wi-Fi, test with an Ethernet cable. BC-101 is very sensitive to packet loss on Wi-Fi.
