Here’s how to set up Okta Verify on a new phone, depending on whether you still have your old device and available recovery options:
📱 If You Still Have Access to Your Old Device
You can either remove the enrollment there or sync it via Bluetooth (Android/iOS):
Option A: Remove and Re‑enroll
On your old phone: open Okta Verify → select your account → tap Delete Account, which removes it from the Okta system.
On a computer: log into your Okta End‑User Dashboard. Go to account Settings, under “Security Methods” or “Extra Verification”, remove the old Okta Verify entry, then click Set up to generate a new QR code.
On your new phone, download Okta Verify, open it → tap Add Account → Organization → Ready to scan. Scan the QR code from the dashboard, enable notifications and biometrics if prompted, and tap Done.
Option B: Sync via Bluetooth (supported on Android and iOS)
Available only if both your devices have Bluetooth enabled, biometrics on the new device, and FastPass enabled:
On your old device: open Okta Verify → select your account → tap Add account to another device → authenticate with biometrics and allow Bluetooth → a QR code and setup code appear
On the new device: install the app, open it → tap Add account from another device → follow prompts, scan the QR (or enter code manually), confirm the 6‑digit PIN to pair devices, then complete setup and tap Done

🔒 If You Don’t Have the Old Device (Broken, Lost, or Wiped)
Attempt to sign in using another available MFA method, such as SMS, email, or a security key. On the Okta sign-in page, choose “Verify with something else” or “Use another method”.
Once signed in, go to Settings → Extra Verification or Security Methods and remove the existing Okta Verify registration. Then click Set up to get a fresh QR code for your new device.
Follow the same setup process on your new phone: download Okta Verify, tap Add → Organization → Ready to scan, scan the QR, enable notifications/biometrics as prompted, and tap Done.
If you have no alternate method configured, or you can’t access the Dashbord, you’ll need to contact your organization’s IT or help desk to reset your Okta Verify before setting it up on the new phone.
⚠️ What You Can’t Do
You cannot “transfer” your Okta Verify account from one device to another without first removing the old enrollment or using Bluetooth sync. It’s tied to the original device and doesn’t just migrate over automatically.
Okta Verify does not copy over TOTP codes for non‑Okta services like GitHub or Google—you’ll need to manually re‑configure those on your new device from those services directly.
