For the 2026 academic year, NSFAS has already processed most funding decisions. As of January 7, 2026, results for university students are available, while TVET college results are expected to be released shortly (around January 13, 2026).
Here is how to check your status immediately.
1. Online Status Check (Direct Link)
This is the main portal to view your funding status and download your allowance approval letters.
Portal URL: https://my.nsfas.org.za/
Steps to login:
Go to the link above.
Enter your ID Number and Password.
Click “Sign In”.
Once logged in, click on “Track Funding Progress”.
Forgot Password? If you cannot log in, click “Forgot Password” on the login page. You will need access to the email address or cellphone number you registered with to reset it.
2. Alternative Ways to Check (No Data/Airtime)
If the website is down or you have connection issues, use these official mobile channels:
WhatsApp: Add 078 519 8006 to your contacts, message “Hi”, and follow the prompts to check your status.
USSD (Dial): Dial

3. Understanding Your Status
Provisionally Funded: You are approved for funding! NSFAS is just waiting for your university/college to send your registration data for the 2026 year.
Awaiting Academic Results: NSFAS is waiting to see if you passed your 2025 exams (if you are a returning student) or your Matric results (if you are a first-year) to confirm eligibility.
Unsuccessful / Rejected: Your application was declined. Act fast if you see this.
⚠️ Critical Deadline: Appeals
If your status says “Unsuccessful,” you must lodge an appeal immediately.
Appeal Deadline: The general deadline for 2026 appeals is set for January 14, 2026.
Do not wait. Log into the portal and click the “Submit Appeal” button to upload your supporting documents (e.g., proof of loss of income) before this date.
