Possible reasons it’s not working / things you should check

Here are several things that can cause crossplay to fail, and how to troubleshoot:

ProblemWhat to check or try
Crossplay toggle / privacy settings offMake sure crossplay is enabled in your game settings. Also check privacy/online settings so that cross-network play, party invites, messages etc are allowed.
Game versions not matchingIf one player has not updated or is on a different version/patch, crossplay can break. Everyone should have the latest patch.
Account linkingYour NBA 2K account might need to be linked properly to your console service (PSN/Xbox Live). If linking is broken or token is stale, it can prevent cross-platform friends from showing.
Strict NAT / network issuesA strict NAT type, or network/firewall blocking, or using VPN / custom DNS etc can stop invites or matchmaking from succeeding.
Server-side issues / bugsSometimes crossplay invites are broken due to server bugs and need a patch. The devs are aware, but fixes may not yet be fully deployed.
Mode doesn’t support crossplayNot all game modes may support crossplay. E.g. sometimes private lobbies, certain tournaments, or legacy / last-gen console modes are excluded.

Workarounds / fixes people are using

While waiting for a permanent fix, some of these have helped players:

  • Use the Squad Finder or similar built‑in grouping tools in “Park” or “The City” instead of direct invites. If you and your friend use similar filters, you may end up in the same group/lobby.

  • Fully restart the game or console / client, ensure overnight updates are applied. Clear any caches if possible.

  • Check your NAT type, try connecting via wired connection rather than Wi-Fi, ensure router settings (UPnP etc.) are optimized.
