How to Check Your Status

You can access the official status check tool directly at: 👉 https://www.ceir.gov.mm/check-status

Step 1: Dial *#06# on your mobile phone to find your 15-digit IMEI number.
Step 2: Enter the IMEI into the “Check IMEI Status” field on the portal.
Step 3: The system will tell you if your device is on the Approved List (Whitelisted) or if it requires tax payment.

The regime has implemented strict timelines for registration to avoid device blocking:

Milestone	Requirement / Consequence
Before March 31, 2026	Automatic Whitelisting: Any phone currently in use with a local SIM (MPT, ATOM, Ooredoo/U9, or Mytel) will be automatically registered for free
April 1, 2026 onwards	New Devices: Phones not on the approved list will only work for a 30-day grace period after first connecting to a network
Post-Grace Period	Blocking: If taxes and penalties aren’t paid within 30 days, the device will be blocked from all Myanmar mobile networks.

Taxes: Devices imported privately or brought from abroad are subject to customs taxes (reportedly around 35%) to be whitelisted.
Tourists: Visitors generally receive a 30-day temporary usage window.
Surveillance: Digital rights groups have noted that this system links your physical handset (IMEI) directly to your identity (SIM registration), significantly increasing the government’s ability to track user movement and activity.
Connectivity Issues: Users have reported the website being slow or showing a blank page due to high traffic; if it doesn’t load, try again during off-peak hours or contact the CEIR Call Center at 1577 or 1755.
