Microsoft Store Error 0X80244022 | How to Fix it

The Microsoft Store error 0x80244022 is technically defined as WU_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_SERVICE_UNAVAIL, which corresponds to an HTTP 503 (Service Unavailable) error.

This means your computer is reaching out to the Microsoft servers, but they are currently too busy to handle the request or are undergoing maintenance.

There have been intermittent reports of Microsoft services (including the Store and Windows Update) experiencing minor “traffic imbalances” following a platform-wide Azure storage issue on February 2. While that primary incident was mitigated, some users in South India (including the Kerala region) have noted “Server Busy” errors today, likely due to regional load-balancing during weekend maintenance.


Recommended Fixes

1. The “Wait and Sync” Method (Most Effective Today)

Since this is a server-side error, the most common solution is simply to wait 30–60 minutes and try again. Additionally, ensure your system clock is perfectly synced:

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time.

  • Click Sync now under “Additional settings.”

  • Why? If your clock is off by even a few seconds, the secure handshake with Microsoft’s servers will fail with a 503/0x80244022 error.

2. Reset the Microsoft Store Cache

This clears the temporary “gunk” without affecting your installed apps:

  • Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.

  • Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.

  • A blank command prompt window will appear. Do not close it; it will disappear automatically, and the Store will launch once the reset is complete.

3. Run the Troubleshooter

Windows has a built-in tool specifically for this:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

  • Find Windows Update (or Windows Store Apps) and click Run.

4. Restart the “Install Service”

If you have already tried the steps above and the error persists, you can force a refresh of the update components by running these commands in an Elevated Command Prompt (Run as Administrator):
