There are nine prize categories on the Mega Millions online lottery that players can win. The prize tiers range from $2 all the way up to the Mega Millions jackpot which is guaranteed to be $40 million and upwards.

The Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot Pay-out Options

Winners of the Mega Millions jackpot have two options to claim their prize by either opting for winnings to be paid out either by the lump sum option or the annuity payout option.

If you opt for the lump sum payout option you get instant access to your winnings but you only receive about 60% of the Mega Millions jackpot.

If you opt for your Mega Millions jackpot payout via the annuity payout option, you will receive your first payment straight away with the balance paid out each year in instalments which can take up to thirty years to receive all of your money. Each annuity payment earns you 4% which will make the last payment the biggest. The payout from the annuity option is calculated from the size of the Mega Millions jackpot prize total.

When you play Mega Millions lottery, there is no cap or limit on rollovers and the Mega Millions jackpot will continue to roll until it has been won. This often allows the Mega Millions lotto jackpot prizes to reach hundreds of millions of dollars in prize money. If more than one person wins the Mega Millions jackpot, the prize money will be split evenly amongst all winners.

For the fourth time in a little more than four years, the Mega Millions® jackpot has topped $1 billion! After no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 3, 20, 46, 59 and 63, plus the gold Mega Ball 13 – the jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday, January 10, is currently estimated at $1.1 billion ($568.7 million cash). If won at that amount, it would be the third largest jackpot in the game’s history.
