If you are trying to sign in to the Apple TV app on a smart TV (Samsung, LG, Sony, etc.) or a console (PS5, Xbox) and the code screen is not working, here is what you need to know about link.apple.com and how to fix the sign-in loop.


1. Use the Correct Link

The URL link.apple.com is sometimes used for specific device linking, but the primary activation site for entering the code from your TV screen is:

Try this: Go to activate.apple.com on your phone or computer and enter the code displayed on your TV. If link.apple.com is specifically shown on your TV screen, ensure you type it exactly, but activate.apple.com often resolves glitches where the other link hangs.


2. Fix the “Verification Failed” or Loop

If you enter the code and it loops back to the start or says “Verification Failed,” this is usually due to a 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) timeout.

  • The “Append Code” Trick (For Older Devices/Software): If your TV asks for your password but provides no place to type the 6-digit 2FA code sent to your phone:

    1. Type your password in the password field.

    2. Do not click submit yet.

    3. Look at the 6-digit code on your iPhone/iPad.

    4. Type those 6 digits directly at the end of your password (no spaces).

    • Example: If password is Hunter2 and code is 123456, type: Hunter2123456.

3. Scan the QR Code Instead

Most modern versions of the Apple TV app display a QR code on the TV screen.

  • Open the Camera app on your iPhone/iPad.

  • This bypasses the manual code entry and uses your phone’s biometrics (FaceID/TouchID) to log you in instantly.


4. “Verification Code Limit” Error

If you have requested too many codes in a short time, Apple locks the sign-in for safety.

  • The Fix: Wait 1 hour before trying again.

  • Workaround: If you really need access now, use a different browser on your phone (e.g., Chrome instead of Safari) to visit activate.apple.com.


5. Check “Apple ID” vs “Media” Settings

If the sign-in works but you still can’t watch anything:

  • On your TV app, go to Settings > Accounts.

  • Ensure you are signed in to the account that has the subscription. Sometimes the TV defaults to a “Game Center” or “iCloud” login that is different from your “Media & Purchases” ID.


Quick Reset:

If none of this works, delete the Apple TV app from your Smart TV, reinstall it, and try the QR code method immediately.
