“Encanto’s” “Dos Oruguitas” has been nominated for an Oscar in the best original song category for Lin-Manuel Miranda. Already, Miranda has won three Emmys, a Tony, and a Grammy.
If he wins the Oscar, he’ll join a select group of artists like John Legend, Marvin Hamlisch, and Robert Lopez who have achieved this status. When “Waiting in the Wings” from Disney’s “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure” won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Song in a Children’s, Young Adult, or Animated Program in 2020, composer Alan Menken became the most recent artist to achieve EGOT status.
Miranda has also won a Pulitzer Prize for “Hamilton,” which is a rare honour. Hamlisch and Richard Rodgers are the only other people in the world to hold that distinction.
