Kindle Unlimited Down | Guide to Fix it

As of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, there are lingering connectivity issues following an Amazon Web Services (AWS) instability that occurred yesterday (Feb 3).

While the major outage is technically “resolved,” many users are still reporting “sync fails” or books getting stuck on “Queued.”

If your Kindle Unlimited (KU) books aren’t downloading or the store won’t load, follow this guide to force the connection.

1. The “Deliver to Device” Workaround (Best Fix)

When the Kindle device itself fails to “pull” the book, you can force the Amazon website to “push” it. This bypasses the device’s glitchy store interface.

  • Go to Amazon.com on your phone or computer.

  • Navigate to Account & Lists > Content & Devices.

  • Click on the Books tab.

  • Find the KU book you want.

  • Click the Deliver to Device button (or “Deliver or Remove from Device”) on the right side.

  • Select your specific Kindle and click Make Changes.

  • Result: The book should appear on your Kindle within 60 seconds.

2. The “Hard” Reboot

A simple “screen off/on” doesn’t clear the network cache. You need to do a hard restart.

  • Hold down the power button on your Kindle for a full 40 seconds.

  • Ignore the “Screen Off” or “Restart” menu that pops up—keep holding.

  • Once the screen flashes or goes blank and the logo appears, release the button.

3. Check the “Digital” Payment Method

Kindle Unlimited often fails silently if your card expired or was declined. Interestingly, Amazon keeps a separate payment setting for digital content versus physical goods.

  • Go to Content & Devices > Preferences.

  • Click Edit Payment Method under “Digital Payment Settings.”

  • Ensure the selected card is valid. (If it fails, KU will look active but won’t let you download anything new).

4. The “Airplane Mode” Toggle

If your book is stuck on “Queued” or “Pending” forever:

  • Turn Airplane Mode ON.

  • Wait 10 seconds.

  • Turn Airplane Mode OFF.

  • Immediately tap Sync Your Kindle from the quick settings menu.

5. “License Limit” Error

If you see an error saying “License Limit Reached,” it means you have hit the 20-book limit for Kindle Unlimited.

  • You must return a book before you can download a new one.

  • Long-press a book cover in your library > Select Return to Public Library or Return Book.
