To activate your itsme, go to the itsme website my.itsme-id.com/account/activate and click My account → Activate your itsme, then enter your mobile phone number.

Here are the main methods to activate your itsme® account:


🆔 Method 1: Activate with Belgian eID + card reader

  1. On a computer, go to the itsme website and click My account → Activate your itsme, then enter your mobile phone number.

  2. Install the Connective browser extension/driver, insert your Belgian eID into the reader, and enter your eID PIN to receive an identification token.

  3. Open the itsme app on your phone, tap Activate itsme, enter your phone number & email, then select eID and card reader .

  4. Input the token from your computer, verify the SMS code, and create your your 5‑digit itsme PIN. You’re all set.


🏦 Method 2: Activate via Bank (if you’re with Belfius, KBC/CBC, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING, Hello Bank, Fintro)

  1. Download the itsme app and enter your phone number.

  2. Choose activate via bank, then follow on-screen instructions. You’ll need your bank card, reader, and PIN. The bank verifies your identity—no eID required.

  3. After authentication, enter the SMS code and set your itsme PIN.

📱 Method 3: Activate with NFC-enabled ID (in supported countries)

If your smartphone and ID support NFC (e.g., Belgian, Dutch eID/passport), follow these steps:

  1. In the itsme app, enter your phone number and select the NFC method.

  2. Scan the QR code on your document, then tap the ID to your phone to read your data.

  3. Take a selfie for biometric verification.

  4. Enter the SMS verification code.

  5. Choose your itsme PIN (and optionally enable Touch/Face ID).

  6. After that, your digital ID is active.
