The official status of The National Lottery (UK) is UP, but many users are experiencing lingering issues following a massive system upgrade that took place late last week (Jan 24–26).
If your app is crashing, saying “Location Check Failed,” or refusing to log you in, it is likely due to a conflict between your device and the new “Allwyn” platform update.
Here are the specific fixes for the current batch of glitches:
1. The “Location Check Failed” Fix (New Error)
Since the update, the app is much stricter about verifying you are physically in the UK.
Toggle WiFi: If you are on WiFi, switch to Mobile Data (4G/5G) and try logging in. Sometimes WiFi IP addresses are misidentified as “non-UK.”
Location Permissions: Go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > National Lottery > Permissions and ensure Location is set to “While Using the App” (or “Always”).
2. The Mandatory Update
The old version of the app (from before Jan 25) will no longer communicate with the servers.
Go to the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
Search for “The National Lottery.”
If you see an Update button, hit it. If you only see “Open” but it still won’t work, proceed to step 3.

3. The “Clean Install” (Recommended)
Because the recent update changed how payments and spend limits are handled, old cached data often breaks the new app.
Delete the app entirely.
Restart your phone (important to clear the cache).
Reinstall the app fresh.
4. Website Workaround
If the app is completely stuck (e.g., the “White Screen” bug), the mobile website has been reported to be more stable.
Open Chrome or Safari and go to
national-lottery.co.uk.Log in there. Note: You may be asked to set a new “Spend Limit” immediately upon logging in. You must do this before you can play; the app sometimes fails to show this pop-up, locking you out of the rest of the interface.
5. Payment Card Glitch
If you are trying to add funds and it fails:
The new update wiped many saved cards. You may need to delete your old card and re-add it as a “New Payment Method” rather than trying to edit the existing one.
