Apple’s new 1TB storage option for customers is available on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. This is the largest storage configuration available on an iPhone to date. New camera features, such as ProRes for videos coming out later this year, were the primary reason for the new option. Additionally, 4K 60FPS videos shot on the iPhone use a lot more storage than regular videos because they are in ProRes format.

It’s no secret that Apple has positioned the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max as the ultimate camera for filmmakers, and the 1TB model is no exception.

According to a speculative report from Chinese site MyDrivers, Apple plans to add a 2TB storage option to its Pro iPhones with the release of the iPhone 14 next year. Rumor has it that Apple will use QLC flash storage in the next year’s iPhone, increasing capacity to 2TB thanks to the newer storage technology. This should be taken with a grain of salt.

This week, DigiTimes was the first to suggest that Apple would use new storage technologies for the iPhone 7, but that report didn’t mention a 2TB option specifically.

There’s a good reason why Apple doesn’t release new storage options on a regular basis, as evidenced by the new camera features we saw this year. The notch is expected to be removed from the iPhone 14 next year, instead of focusing on camera improvements. Whatever the case may be, new iPhones will all have improved cameras. Even so, there’s no reason to believe that the iPhone 14’s camera improvements will necessitate a new 2TB storage option.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, predicts that the company will discontinue the 5.4-inch iPhone form factor with its upcoming iPhone 14 lineup, which will include two 6.1-inch models and a 6.7-inch model. Face ID is expected to use a hole-punch design on the larger iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, which are both 6.1 inches in size. A vapour chamber thermal system and a titanium body are both possibilities for higher-end models.
