The “Internal Error: Contact Tally Solutions” message generally indicates data corruption, a memory conflict, or a problem with a TDL (customization) file.
Stop working immediately to prevent further data loss. Follow these steps in order, starting with the safest fixes.
⚠️ Critical First Step: Backup
Before doing anything else, go to your Tally folder and copy your entire “Data” folder to a different location (like a USB drive or Desktop). This ensures you have a safety net if a repair attempt fails.
Phase 1: The Quick Fixes (Try these first)
1. Delete the tally.sav file
This file stores general configuration settings (not your accounting data) and is a frequent cause of startup crashes.
Right-click your Tally icon and choose Open File Location.
Find the file named
tally.sav.Delete it (or rename it to
tally_old.sav).Restart Tally.
2. Check for *.tsf files
Go to your Data folder (where your company number folders like
10000,10001are located).Look for a file named
Tmessage.tsf.If the file size is 0 KB or 1 KB: Delete it.
If the file size is large (MBs): Do NOT delete it; this contains un-synced data. Skip to Phase 2.

Phase 2: Repair the Data (Rewrite)
If the error happens specifically when you try to load a company, the data needs a “Rewrite.”
Open Tally, but do not open your company yet.
On the “Select Company” screen, highlight your company name.
Press Ctrl + Alt + R.
Tally will ask: “Rewrite? Yes or No”.
Select Yes.
Wait for the process to finish and try loading the company again.
Phase 3: The “Zero Command” (Deep Repair)
If the standard rewrite fails, use this command-line tool to force a deep repair.
Right-click your Tally shortcut and select Properties to copy the “Target” path (e.g.,
"C:\Program Files\TallyPrime\tally.exe").Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run box.
Paste the path you copied, then add a space, then your data path in quotes, then a space, and the number
0.Format:
"<Path to Tally.exe>" "<Path to Data>" 0Example:
"C:\TallyPrime\tally.exe" "D:\TallyData" 0
Press Enter. Tally will open in “Manager” mode.
Now perform the Ctrl + Alt + R rewrite step (from Phase 2) again.
Phase 4: Contact Official Support
If the above steps do not work, your data likely has severe corruption that requires Tally’s engineering team to fix manually.
