Activating Your Own Modem Using the Xfinity App

You can activate the modem or gateway you own using the Xfinity app as long as it’s eligible

Activating Your Modem or Gateway

1. Launch the Xfinity app and sign in using your Xfinity ID and password.

2. Once the Internet connection has been found, you’ll be prompted to Start Activation.

3. Find an active cable outlet in your home and Connect the Coax Cable into that outlet and into the back of your modem, ensuring both connections are finger tight.

  • Note:  If you have Xfinity Voice , you should also connect your phone cord from the back of your phone receiver into the back of the modem after connecting your coax cable

4. Plug your modem’s power cord into an electrical outlet.

5. Enter your modem’s 12-digit MAC number.

6. Once your modem is connected to the coax cable in an active outlet and the power cord plugged into an electrical outlet, you’ll be prompted to Check Your Connection.

7. Once connected, Xfinity service will be activated on your modem.

8. If you have Xfinity Voice and your modem activation and provisioning was successful, your Xfinity Voice number(s) will be displayed in the success message. If you don’t have Xfinity Voice, you’ll receive the confirmation with no phone number.

9. Once your modem is activated, you can use the Xfinity app to see your modem name and online/offline status, as well as view payment details, accessXfinity Assistant for account concerns, run speed tests to the device you’re using and restart your modem.

    • Note: If any errors occur during activation, you’ll be connected with an agent by text message for help. If an agent is unavailable to chat by text, we’ll call you.

If you’re activating Xfinity xFi Pods or an Xfinity xFi Gateway (with the exception of the xFi Fiber Gateway, Arris X5001), you can use the Xfinity xFi app for easy activation. After setup, you can use the app for management of your home network. To determine the type of Gateway you have, check the make and model information located on the bottom of your device. You can also sign in to My Account and select Devices.

    1. Download the Xfinity xFi app for free from Google Play or the App Store.
    2. Sign in using your Xfinity ID and password.
        • If you don’t have one, you can create one from the sign-in page.
    3. Once you are signed in, follow the on-screen prompts for easy activation.
      • If you are activating xFi Pods, go to More > Xfinity Device > xFi Pods.
      • If you are activating an xFi Gateway and aren’t automatically prompted to activate, go to More > Xfinity Device and choose either xFi Gateway or xFi Pods.

If you’re activating Xfinity Internet, Voice or any TV services other than X1, you can easily activate your equipment online.

    1. Connect your Internet, Voice and/or TV equipment and turn it on.
    2. Go online to xfinity.com/activate for easy step-by-step activation instructions.

X1 Activation Process to Activate Your Equipment on Your TV

While the Welcome screens are displayed, the TV Box is connecting to cloud services that include the activation applications. Where you need to Choose Language Preference

Enter the last four digits of any phone number listed on your Xfinity account. Use the number keys or directional pad on your remote to enter numbers.

        • If you’re having trouble using the last four digits of a phone number, you can select the Verify another way button to verify via text message or by entering your account information.

        • You’ll automatically be taken to the next step of the set-up process once your account information has been verified. Please note that if you’ve already activated one X1 box in your home, you may not need to verify your information again.
        • For some TV Box types, X1 service will activate quickly; however, other TV Box types may take up to 10 minutes. The following messages will be displayed to inform you that the activation process is ongoing.
        • Downloading your Main Menu. Once activation is complete, press the Xfinity button on your remote to find your Guide, DVR, On Demand and more
        • Your X1 experience is almost ready. While it’s loading, download the Xfinity Stream app to your mobile device or go to xfinity.com/stream to watch your entertainment from any device.
        • Loading Voice Commands. Once your X1 experience is ready, say “Help” to your Voice Remote to manage your account, troubleshoot and learn more about your services anytime
