Who can use the DStv Stream app?
Anyone can download and use the DStv Stream app.
If you’re not yet a subscriber, there is a small selection of content available for you to enjoy.
If you are a DStv subscriber, you’ll be able to live stream the TV channels and watch all the Catch Up content linked to your package.
All viewing requires a login – even if you’re not a DStv subscriber.
How to Activate DSTV on Smart TV
1. Connect your smart TV to the internet using ethernet cable or Wi-Fi
2. Go to the App Store on your TV, search for “DStv Now”, and install the app
3. Once installed, the app will display a code on your TV screen
4. On a laptop/desktop, go to now.dstv.com and sign in
5. Once signed in, go to now.dstv.com/tv and enter the code displayed on the TV, then click on the “Sign in on TV” button
6. The app will now be live on the TV
Setup Pairing on now.dstv.com
Setup Pairing screen is used for pairing Smart Cards with Decoders. In the system, if single STB exists for a customer, then the pairing can be done implicitly. But for more than one STB, the smart cards and decoders are paired explicitly.
Through this screen an existing pairing can also be modified or cancelled.
To pair smart cards with decoders:
- On the Provisioning module, click Setup Pairing
- Retrieve details of the customer. The details like Customer Name, available smart card and decoder details appear in Pairing Details table
- To do a pairing, click the Add link in Pairing Details table
- Select the type of smart card from SmartCard Code drop down. All the available smart card numbers of the specific type appear in SmartCard No. drop down. Select the required number to be paired with decoder.
- Select the type of decoder from Decoder Code drop down. All the available decoder numbers of the specific type appear in Decoder No. drop down. Select the required number to be paired with the selected smart card.
- Click the Save button to pair the selected smart card with the decoder.
- To cancel any existing pairing, select the check box against the pair and click the Update link. Finally click the Save button to remove the pairing details.
- To modify an existing paring, click the Edit (pencil) symbol against a pairing. The paring details appear in edit mode. Modify the details and click the Save button to apply the modification.
Why has my DStv Stream app stopped working?
We regularly update security requirements on our app to comply with rights agreements we have with our content suppliers. This may impact devices which do not comply with these changes.
Please check the app store to see if there is an updated version of the DStv app for you to download.
Other than downtime due to maintenance, there are many factors which could contribute to downtime, including ones out of our control like connectivity issues, slow speeds on the internet and even delays on getting feeds from the channels themselves.
Can I use Airplay/Chromecast to cast content from the DStv Stream app on my iOS/Android device to a TV?
Yes. Chromecast is supported on the DStv Stream app for both Android and iOS, while Airplay is supported on iOS. When you’re watching video in the app, look for the AirPlay or Chromecast icon in the video player control, then tap the icon to cast the video to your AirPlay or Chromecast enabled screen. You will still be able to use the app to pause video, change volume or stop casting. If using AirPlay, you can mirror the screen of your mobile device onto the screen of an AirPlay device. To do this, go to the iOS Home screen and swipe up from the bottom to reveal the system tray. Enabled AirPlay Mirroring, then open the DStv app and start streaming your selected content (which will now be viewable in full screen) on your AirPlay device.
