A significant Amazon settlement was reached with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in late September 2025, concerning allegations that Amazon made its Prime membership difficult to cancel and tricked customers into signing up.
Here’s what you need to know about getting your settlement money.
Who Is Eligible?
The settlement is aimed at U.S. customers who were affected by Amazon’s Prime enrollment and cancellation practices. The primary group of eligible customers are those who were enrolled in Prime through deceptive means, such as the “Single Page Checkout” or other links where the subscription was not clearly disclosed.
The settlement covers a period from June 23, 2019, to June 23, 2025.
How to Get Your Money
The settlement outlines two tiers of refunds:
Automatic Payouts:
- If you were enrolled in Prime through a “challenged enrollment flow” during the qualifying period and used the benefits of the service three or fewer times within a one-year subscription, you may be eligible for an automatic refund of up to $51.
- No action is required from you.
- Amazon is required to begin processing these refunds within 90 days of the court’s approval of the settlement.
- The refunds are expected to be issued electronically to the payment method on file, but may also be sent via paper checks.
- If you were enrolled in Prime through a “challenged enrollment flow” during the qualifying period and used the benefits of the service three or fewer times within a one-year subscription, you may be eligible for an automatic refund of up to $51.
Claim Form:
- If you were affected by the deceptive practices but used Prime benefits more frequently, or if you were affected by the difficult cancellation process, you may need to submit a claim form.
- Amazon is required to notify eligible customers and provide instructions on how to claim the money.
- The notifications will be sent via email, postal mail, and a notice on the Amazon website and app.
- Amazon will set up a dedicated website for customers to submit their claims.
- You will have 180 days to submit the claim form after receiving it.
- If you were affected by the deceptive practices but used Prime benefits more frequently, or if you were affected by the difficult cancellation process, you may need to submit a claim form.

What to Do If You Haven’t Received a Refund
If the timeframe for payments has passed and you believe you are eligible but haven’t received any money, here’s what you can do:
Check your email:
- Search your inbox (including your spam or junk folders) for any communications from Amazon or the FTC regarding the settlement.
Check the official settlement website:
- Once it’s established, a dedicated website for the settlement will have information on how to check your eligibility and claim status.
Contact Amazon directly:
- If you are a seller and believe you are owed money for a separate issue, you can log in to your Amazon Seller Central account and use their support tools to check on payment status and raise a ticket.
Stay informed:
- Keep an eye on official news sources from the FTC and reputable news outlets for updates on the settlement’s distribution process.
It is important to be cautious of scams. Do not click on suspicious links or provide personal information to anyone claiming to be from Amazon or the FTC, especially if you were not expecting a message. Always verify the information through official channels.
