How to create or update the PIN for your Roku account

When you set up Roku Pay by linking a payment method to your Roku account, you can purchase subscriptions for channels and services available through the Channel Store, rent or buy movies and TV shows, and purchase Roku device upgrades, offers, and accessories. However, you can create a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to prevent unauthorized users in your home from making purchases and to set ratings-based playback restrictions for content on The Roku Channel. Once a PIN has been created, it must be entered to authorize any transaction, and must be entered once per session if configured for ratings restrictions on The Roku Channel.

How do I set a purchase PIN?

1. Go to my.roku.com from your computer or smartphone.
2. If you are prompted, sign in to your Roku account.
   • If you cannot sign in to your Roku account, learn what to do if you have forgotten your email address or password.
3. Under PIN Preference, select the Update button.
4. Select your PIN preference from the three choices.
   • Always require a PIN to make purchases and to add items from the Channel Store.
   • Always require a PIN to make purchases.
   • A PIN is not required to make any purchase or add any item from the Channel Store.
5. If you choose either of the first two choices and have not created a PIN, you will be prompted to enter a four-digit number in the PIN field and select the Verify PIN field for confirmation.
6. If you already have a PIN, enter your PIN in the Verify PIN field.
7. Select Save Changes and agree to the terms of service.

Notes:

• Creating a PIN only affects the ability to purchase or add channels from the Roku Channel Store. It does not filter channels or block content from the Roku Channel Store.
• Roku typically does not provide refunds for purchases made from the Roku Channel Store, the Movie Store and TV Store.

How do I set a Parental Controls PIN for The Roku Channel?

   • Young Kids – TV shows made for children and content rated U or PG may be watched without a PIN. Content rated 12A, 12, 15, 18 requires a PIN.
   • Teens – All TV shows and content rated U, PG, 12A, 12, 15 may be watched without a PIN. Content rated 18 requires a PIN.
5. Select Save Changes and agree to the terms of service.

Note: Creating a Parental Controls PIN only affects the ability to restrict playback of select video content within The Roku Channel based on BBFC ratings. It does not hide or filter restricted content, nor does it affect playback outside The Roku Channel, including on any other streaming channels. Creating a PIN does not prevent users from exiting The Roku Channel and accessing content on another streaming channel.
