2. Next, we’ll ask for some personal info like your date of birth and SSN or ITIN (if you haven’t already provided this info in association with your business). We’re required to do an identity check before providing access to this feature, but your Tap to Pay on iPhone sign-up does not include a credit check.

  • They may ask for some supporting documents to help verify your info. If this happens, please allow a few days for the team to review your info.

3. To complete verification of your identity, you will also be asked to scan your photo ID and face before continuing.

  • If you’d like to finish verifying your identity another way (without providing a face scan), you can tap visit the FAQ page to access a popup page with a link to our document upload form. From there, you’ll be prompted to submit a passport or permanent residence card, then another eligible form of ID.

4. Once your info is verified, make sure that we have the correct address on file for your Tap to Pay on iPhone receipts. By default, we’ll use the same public contact information you provided when creating your business profile. If needed, you can update this address later under your business profile settings. Tap Confirm or Skip to proceed.

5. You’re almost there! Review the Terms and Conditions for Tap to Pay on iPhone and connect your Apple ID (or use a different one). You will also need to enable a passcode on your device for security purposes.

And that’s a wrap! You should be all set to start accepting contactless payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone. Just tap the Charge button again to start your first charge.

  • We recommend entering something to describe or identify the transaction, should you need to find it in the future. The charge note will also be visible on your customer’s receipt.

4. Tap Tap to Pay on iPhone and wait for the next screen to load

5. Present your phone screen to the customer

  • Tip: You can tap the displayed charge amount to flip your screen, so it’s easier for your customer to read

6. Ask the customer to hold their card over the top of your iPhone, or if they’re paying with Apple Pay (or another digital wallet), they should hold their device near the top of your iPhone. Wait until you see the “Done” confirmation on your screen.

  • For customers with contactless debit or credit cards, ask the customer to hold their card horizontally on the tap area (this may take a few seconds)
  • For customers with Apple Pay and other compatible digital wallets, ask the customer to hold their device near the tap area at the top of your iPhone
  • In some cases, customers will be prompted to enter the PIN for their card to complete the charge (we won’t store this info)

7. From the next screen, choose whether to send your customer an email receipt and ask them to provide their email address

You’re all set! Please note, payments accepted with Tap to Pay on iPhone may take up to 30 minutes to process and settle into your business profile balance.
