Step 1: Activate your account

Log in to your parent account and click the ‘activate account’ button at the top of the main screen. Follow the prompts to set up your parent account, which you’ll use to manage pocket money payments, set up tasks and monitor your child’s spending. Once activated, you’ll be given your child’s log-in details for their app, along with their card PIN. Don’t worry if they forget their password as you can change it at any time via your parent account. And if they forget their PIN, they can always view it by logging in to their app and clicking ‘card’ then ‘pin’ at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Activate your child’s card

Your child’s gohenry card will arrive within seven business days of signing up. For security reasons, the card needs to be activated before they can use it. Simply click on the ‘activate card’ button on your home screen and we’ll guide you through the process — just make sure that you have the card to hand as you’ll need to enter the last four digits of the long card number.

Step 3: Add money to your parent account

Before your child can use their card, you need to add some money to your parent account. You can do this by logging into your account and clicking the ‘top up’ button on the home screen. You’ll need to keep some money in your parent account to ensure that your child’s pocket money payments and tasks transfer properly. To stay on top of this, turn on ‘auto-top up’ so that money will automatically be transferred to your parent account when your balance is running low.

Step 4: Complete account set-up

You can now set up a weekly pocket money payment for your child, add spending limits and choose where your child’s card can be used. For example, you might not want them to spend more than £25 in one transaction, or perhaps you want to ensure they can only use their card in store or at ATMs rather than online. You can change these spending rules at any time by clicking on the ‘card’ page.

Step 5: Add money to your child’s card

Usually, your child’s card will be funded by their weekly pocket money payment. But to get them started (or add a little extra) you can also make a quick transfer from your parent account. To do this, simply click ‘quick transfer’ from your home screen and specify how much money you’d like to move.

Step 6: Add some tasks

Setting up regular tasks for your children is a great way to help them understand the value of money. You might decide to pay a little extra for completing regular tasks, such as doing the dishes, walking the dog, or tidying their room — you can specify these, along with the amount they’ll get paid for completing them, in your gohenry app. Adding tasks is entirely optional, and you can decide whether you’d like them to be completed on a one-off or weekly basis. To create a new task, click on the ‘earnings’ tab, followed by the ‘add new task’ button.
