If you’re not receiving Gemini verification codes via SMS, you’re not alone — this is a fairly common problem. Ensure your phone has strong reception and request a new code after a few minutes.
Here’s what you can do:
🚨 Why It Happens
Network or SMS provider issues – your carrier may delay or block messages.
Temp glitches on Gemini’s side – particularly at peak times; SMS codes sent but never delivered.
Device signal or regional issues – weak cellular service, international phone number formatting hiccups.
🛠️ Fixes to Try
Check phone signal & resend
Ensure your phone has strong reception and request a new code after a few minutes.Verify number format
Enter your phone number correctly, including country code (e.g. +1 for USA).Toggle Airplane Mode
Briefly enter and exit airplane mode to refresh your connection.Clear SMS filters or storage
Disable any spam filtering and delete old messages to make room.Use Authy or another TOTP app
If you’re set up with Authy, switch to that instead. Authy tokens work even if SMS failsIf Authy isn’t yet enabled, enable it via Gemini settings.
You can reset Authy via Gemini’s “Authy Reset” page.
Try again later
Delays are common during high traffic. Wait an hour and try again.Contact Gemini support
If nothing helps, open a support ticket. Many users eventually resolve it through support.

🔐 Enhance Security (and Avoid Future SMS Issues)
Switch off SMS-based 2FA in favor of a more secure method like TOTP (Authy, Google Authenticator).
Optionally add hardware security keys or Touch ID for stronger protection.
Gemini will never:
- Call you. Gemini will not cold call you for any reason including “support” or “account management.” Please do not answer unknown phone calls claiming to come from Gemini.
- Ask you to call us. Gemini will never ask you to call a phone number for support. Gemini Customer Support does not support inbound phone calls.
- Text you about your account. Gemini do not send SMS messages about your account or password resets. The only text you’ll ever get from Gemini is the one-time code that proves you own your phone.
- Email links asking you to log in, move money, or share verification codes.
- Ask you to send crypto—or any other payment—outside the platform.
- Ask for your secret recovery phrase. Anyone with this phrase can access your funds.
Gemini ONLY contacts you in the following ways:
- Emails from @gemini.com which never ask you to move money or click on links to authenticate yourself. The only emails that require you to follow a link are to validate a new device or email account you have added. And if you have not done so, that email is likely to be a scam.
- Note: @em.gemini.com and @news.gemini.com are legitimate sub-domains of @gemini.com because they end with .gemini.com
- One-time code verification codes sent for:
- Email: Codes for new email address or new-device verification.
- SMS: Code sent once to verify your phone number – never for anything else. Below are the phone numbers these codes will be sent by:
- (952) 234-8378
- Short Code: 22395
Enter every code only inside the official Gemini app or Gemini.com.
