If you’re getting “Disconnected from patching server” in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) or even PoE1, it usually means the game client can’t connect to the patching server, either due to:
Network issues on your end
Firewall or antivirus blocking connections
Server problems on GGG’s end
VPN/proxy interference
Corrupt game files
🔧 Fix: “Disconnected from Patching Server” in Path of Exile (PoE2)
✅ 1. Check Path of Exile Server Status
If there’s an outage or maintenance, you’ll need to wait it out.
✅ 2. Restart the Game & PC
Fully close the game and restart your PC to reset any stuck network sessions or background processes.
If using Steam, restart Steam as well.
✅ 3. Run as Administrator
Right-click on the Path of Exile launcher or shortcut
Select “Run as administrator”
This can help bypass permission issues that interfere with patching
✅ 4. Disable Antivirus / Firewall Temporarily
Some firewalls or antivirus programs (especially Windows Defender, Norton, McAfee, etc.) may block access to GGG’s patching servers.
Temporarily disable them and try again.
If it works, add PoE.exe and launcher.exe to the firewall/antivirus exceptions list.
✅ 5. Flush DNS + Restart Modem
You might be dealing with a DNS cache issue:
Open Command Prompt (as Administrator) and run:
Then restart your modem/router and relaunch the game.
✅ 6. Avoid VPNs or Proxies
If you’re using a VPN, try turning it off.
If you’re not using one and the issue persists, try using a VPN to test if the routing from your ISP is the issue.
✅ 7. Switch to a Different Gateway
In the game launcher:
Click the gear icon in the top right.
Select a different gateway (server region) (e.g., from NA → EU).
Restart the game.
✅ 8. Verify Game Files
On Steam:
Right-click Path of Exile in your Library
Go to Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files
On Standalone Client:
Open the Path of Exile launcher
It should auto-check files and download missing patches
