Finish The Masterwork Weapon BG3 | Steps to Complete Quest

To finish the “Finish the Masterwork Weapon” quest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to combine specific ingredients at the forge in the Blighted Village.

Here is the step-by-step guide to completing the quest and obtaining one of the best early-game anti-mage weapons.

Steps to Complete Quest

1. Start the Quest & Find the Blueprints

  • Location: Blighted Village, in the basement of the house to the east (the one with the calcified webs over the hole in the floor).

  • The Blueprints: Inside the basement, locate the trapped chest near the ladder. Disarm it and open it to find Highcliff’s Blueprints. Reading them updates the quest.

    • Note: You can also find “Highcliff’s Journal” in the fireplace of the house above to get context, but the blueprints are essential.

2. Find the Sussur Bark

This is the hardest part. You must travel to the Underdark.

  • Location: The Sussur Tree (huge tree on the west side of the Underdark map).

  • The Bark: You are looking for a specific interactable piece of bark on the tree trunk.

    • Head towards the Sussur Tree Waypoint.

    • Climb the roots up the tree. Watch out for Hook Horrors guarding the branches.

    • The Sussur Bark is located on the south side of the tree trunk. Hold Alt to highlight it; it will be labeled “Sussur Bark.”

3. Get a Base Weapon

This is where most players get stuck. The forge only accepts specific, non-magical weapons. You must have one of the following in your inventory:

  • Common Greatsword (White rarity, no enchantments)

  • Common Dagger (White rarity, no enchantments)

  • Common Sickle (White rarity, no enchantments)

Warning: You cannot use a Longsword, Shortsword, or any weapon with a green/blue background (like a +1 weapon). It must be a plain, mundane version.

4. Forge the Weapon

Return to the Blighted Village basement where you found the blueprints.

  1. Light the Furnace: Interact with the furnace to start a fire.

  2. Use the Bellows: Click the large bellows next to the furnace to stoke the fire.

  3. Add the Bark: Click the furnace again to open the combination menu. Drag the Sussur Bark into the slot and click “Combine.” The fire will turn blue.

  4. Add the Weapon: Click the furnace one last time. Drag your chosen Common Weapon (Greatsword, Dagger, or Sickle) into the slot and click “Combine.”

5. The Reward

You will receive a Sussur Weapon corresponding to the base item you used (e.g., Sussur Greatsword).

  • Effect: The weapon gains a +1 enchantment and Silences targets on hit.

  • Why it’s good: “Silence” prevents enemies from casting spells. Giving this weapon to a mobile character (like Lae’zel or Karlach) allows them to rush enemy wizards and render them useless for a turn.

Recommendation:

The Sussur Greatsword is generally considered the best choice because it is a high-damage weapon perfect for melee fighters who hunt mages. The Dagger is a good off-hand option for Rogues.
