An Epson “service connection timed out” error 522 occurs when the printer cannot reach Epson’s servers within a reasonable time, often caused by poor internet, firewall restrictions, or temporary server overload.
To fix it, check your internet connectivity, disable firewalls, or restart the printer and router.
In the context of Epson printers, Error Code 522 (Connection Timed Out) typically indicates that your printer is having trouble communicating with the Epson Connect cloud servers.
As of March 4, 2026, there have been intermittent reports of Epson Connect server instability, but more importantly, Epson is currently in the process of migrating its API from version 1.3 to 2.0, which can cause connection timeouts for older devices or those with outdated firmware.
Immediate Troubleshooting Steps
1. Power Cycle Everything
- This clears the network cache on both ends.
Turn off your printer.
Unplug your router for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Once the internet is back up, turn the printer back on and wait 2 minutes for it to re-establish its handshake with the server.
2. Update Printer Firmware (High Priority)
Because of the ongoing API migration, printers on old firmware may lose the ability to connect to Epson’s cloud.
Use the Epson Software Updater on your PC/Mac or go to Settings > Firmware Update directly on the printer’s LCD screen.
3. Reset Epson Connect Services
- If the printer is “connected” to Wi-Fi but still shows Error 522:
Go to the printer’s web interface by typing its IP address into a browser.
Look for Epson Connect Services or Google Cloud Print settings.
Select Suspend/Disable and then Re-enable them. This forces the printer to request a new “token” from Epson’s servers.
4. Check DNS Settings
- Printers often struggle with “auto” DNS settings provided by ISPs.
In your printer’s Network Settings, change the DNS from “Auto” to Manual.
Use Google’s Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 (Primary) and 8.8.4.4 (Secondary). This is a known fix for 522 errors where the printer can’t “find” the Epson server.

Is it an Epson Server Issue?
You can check the live status of the cloud services at epsonconnect.com. If the “Email Print” or “Scan to Cloud” status shows Suspended, the problem is on Epson’s end and you will need to wait a few hours.
