Epic Games Language Change on its Own | Easy Fix

If your Epic Games Launcher keeps changing language on its own (often to Spanish, Chinese, or the system default), it is usually due to a corrupted configuration file or the launcher incorrectly detecting your system’s region.

Here is how to fix it permanently, ranked from easiest to most advanced.

Method 1: The “Hard Lock” (Best Fix)

The most reliable way to stop the launcher from changing languages is to force it to open in English (or your preferred language) every time via the shortcut.

  1. Close the Epic Games Launcher completely (check your system tray near the clock to make sure it’s not running in the background).

  2. Right-click your Epic Games Launcher shortcut on your desktop and select Properties.

  3. Find the “Target” field. It will look something like this:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64\EpicGamesLauncher.exe"

  4. Add a space at the very end, and then type -Culture=en

    • Result: ...EpicGamesLauncher.exe" -Culture=en

  5. Click Apply and OK.

  6. Launch the app using this shortcut. It will now force English every time.

(Note: If you want a different language, use its code, e.g., es for Spanish, fr for French, de for German).

Method 2: Delete the Cache

Sometimes the “webcache” folder gets corrupted and remembers the wrong language setting.

  1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard.

  2. Type %localappdata% and press Enter.

  3. Navigate to EpicGamesLauncher > Saved.

  4. Delete the “webcache” folder (and “webcache_4147” if you see it).

  5. Restart the launcher. It will likely open in English or ask you to sign in again, resetting the glitch.

Method 3: Edit the Config File

If the settings keep reverting after a reboot, you can manually edit the settings file.

  1. Press Windows Key + R, type %localappdata%, and press Enter.

  2. Go to EpicGamesLauncher > Saved > Config > Windows.

  3. Open the file named GameUserSettings.ini with Notepad.

  4. Scroll down to the bottom and look for [Internationalization].

  5. Change the line below it to: Culture=en

  6. Save the file and close it.

  7. Optional: Right-click the file, choose Properties, and check “Read-only” so the launcher cannot overwrite your changes again.

Why is this happening?

This often happens after a launcher update if your Windows “Region” format is set differently than your “Display Language” (e.g., Display is English, but Region format is set to something else). The launcher gets confused and defaults to the Region format.
