Embark Game Boot Error | Easy Fix

The “Embark Game Boot Fatal Error” is a specific crash that typically occurs with ARC Raiders or The Finals right at startup. It is usually triggered by the game’s anti-cheat system flagging background software as a security risk, even if that software is harmless.

Here are the fixes for this error, ordered from the most common cause to more technical solutions.

1. Close Conflicting “Macro” Software (Top Cause)

The most common trigger for the “Boot Fatal Error” is AutoHotkey or similar macro/scripting tools running in the background. The game’s anti-cheat (Easy Anti-Cheat) blocks the boot process if it detects these.

  • The Fix:

    1. Check your system tray (bottom right near the clock) for AutoHotkey (AHK) or similar script icons. Right-click and Exit.

    2. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).

    3. End tasks for any scripting software, including AutoHotkey, Cheat Engine, or remapping software like Rewasd.

    4. Restart the game.

2. Disable Overlays (Discord & Nvidia)

If the game launches to a black screen and then crashes, it is often a conflict with an overlay “hooking” into the game improperly.

  • Discord: Go to User Settings (Cog icon) > Game Overlay > Toggle OFF “Enable in-game overlay”.

  • Nvidia/AMD: Turn off the GeForce Experience or Adrenalin in-game overlays temporarily.

  • RivaTuner / MSI Afterburner: These statistics overlays are frequent causes of boot crashes. Close them completely before launching.

3. The “Stuck Launcher” Workaround

Sometimes the error is actually a timeout because the Embark launcher freezes in the background.

  • The Workaround:

    1. Launch the game from Steam/Epic.

    2. If it says “Running” but nothing appears, wait 10 seconds.

    3. In Steam, click “Stop”.

    4. Steam will say “Stopping…” for a moment. Do not close Steam.

    5. Often, the game window will suddenly pop up after you click Stop. This forces the launcher to hand off the process correctly.

4. Force DirectX 11 Mode

Newer Embark games default to DirectX 12, which can cause immediate boot crashes on some GPUs (especially older Nvidia cards or specific AMD drivers).

  • Steam:

    1. Right-click the game in your Library > Properties.

    2. In the General tab, find “Launch Options”.

    3. Type: -dx11

    4. Close and launch.

  • Epic Games:

    1. Click your Profile Icon > Settings.

    2. Scroll down to the game name and expand it.

    3. Check “Additional Command Line Arguments” and type: -d3d11

5. Repair Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC)

If the boot error mentions “Integrity” or “EAC,” the anti-cheat service itself is corrupt.

  1. Go to the game’s installation folder (Steam: Right-click > Manage > Browse Local Files).

  2. Open the EasyAntiCheat folder.

  3. Run EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe (or similar).

  4. Click “Repair Service”.
