Dreglord Straghess

Dreglord Straghess (also known as the Traitorous Straghess) is the final boss of the “Forsaken Hollows” DLC for Elden Ring: Nightreign.

If you are struggling to beat him—or just trying to understand what exactly this “thing” is—here is the full breakdown of his lore, weaknesses, and the best strategy to take him down.

Quick Dossier

  • Full Name: Traitorous Straghess (Phase 1 & 2) / Pure Impulse Straghess (Phase 3 & 4)

  • Location: The Forsaken Hollows (Final Expedition)

  • Weaknesses: Fire (Primary), Holy (Secondary), Physical Strike

  • Resistances: Scarlet Rot (Immune), Poison (High), Lightning

  • Recommended Level: 13-15 (Max Expedition Level)

Lore: What is the Dreglord?

Straghess is an abomination formed from the “dregs”—the countless corpses and discarded souls that washed away during the Primordial Night.

  • The “Traitor” Title: Unlike the other Nightlords (like Gladius or Fulghor) who serve the Night, Straghess is a “Traitor” because it rejected the Night’s order. It exists only out of pure, stagnant malice and a desire to destroy everything, including the Night itself.

  • The Scarlet Rot Connection: He wields Scarlet Rot, but lore items suggest this isn’t from the Outer God of Rot (like Malenia). Instead, it is “rot born of stagnation”—literal biological decay from being a pile of billions of corpses.

Combat Strategy: How to Survive

Straghess has two full health bars and shifts aggression levels significantly.

Phase 1: Traitorous Straghess (The “Slow” Phase)

  • The Threat: He uses a massive club and summons “Rotten Corpse” mobs.

  • Strategy:

    • Ignore the Mobs: Do not waste stamina killing the small zombies; Straghess will just summon more. Focus pure DPS on the boss.

    • Dodge Into the Club: His swings are wide. Rolling backward usually gets you caught by the follow-up AoE. Roll through the swing to get behind him.

Phase 2: The “Rot Ball” Mechanics

  • The Attack: He will charge a massive ball of rot in his hand.

    • If he throws it: Dodge sideways at the last second.

    • If he slams it: RUN. This creates a massive AoE explosion that can one-shot squishy classes like the Scholar.

Phase 3 & 4: Pure Impulse Straghess (The “Fast” Phase)

  • The Change: His name changes to “Pure Impulse,” he drops the club, and starts using feral, beast-like movements.

  • The Danger: He leaps between pillars and does a “dive bomb” attack.

  • Best Counter: This is where you use your Ultimate Arts.

    • Undertaker is the best Nightfarer for this fight because her “Confluence” passive scales off the deaths of the summons, and her Ultimate can stagger him out of his dive.

Best Team Composition

  1. Undertaker (DPS): Essential for clearing the Rot zombies passively.

  2. Ironeye (Support/Ranged): Use the “Mark” ability to guarantee critical hits during his slow Phase 1 animations.

  3. Guardian (Tank): Someone needs to hold aggro in Phase 3, or he will tear apart your healers.
