EA Sports FC 26 is here, and a big part of the game for many players is the Career Mode, and specifically, finding and developing high-potential players, often called “wonderkids.”
These are young players who start with a lower overall rating but can grow into world-class superstars with proper training and game time.
⚽ What “Potential” Means in FC 26 Career Mode
A player’s Overall Rating (OVR) is their current skill level, based on how EA has evaluated their abilities in-game.
Potential Rating (sometimes called “growth ceiling”) is how good a player could become over the course of a Career Mode, assuming they develop well (good training, match time, morale, etc.).
Players with high potential are often younger players (“wonderkids,” hidden gems) because they have more time to grow.

🔄 What’s New or Different in FC 26
From what’s been revealed, FC 26 introduces a few changes that affect how potential plays out:
Deeper Simulation & Data‑Driven Scouting
You can simulate additional leagues (up to 5 others besides your main one), so you’ll see stats, emerging players, and more realistic competition across leagues.
Scout reports now give richer data and likely better indicators of potential.
“Authentic Gameplay” vs “Competitive Gameplay” Presets
For Career Mode (offline), “Authentic Gameplay” is emphasised, which tends to reward realistic development — pace, positioning, tactics, and growth may respond more to actual play time and training rather than exploiting fast mechanics.
Unexpected Events & More Manager‑Driven Growth Environment
There are random events (e.g. injuries, boardroom issues, etc.), which can affect things like morale and training. This may delay or accelerate development.
Managerial decisions, youth academy, and training plans are more involved, so how you manage squad, playtime, and mentorship will have more impact.
Delay of Dynamic Potential
A note: Dynamic Potential (where a player’s ceiling can change during the Career Mode based on performance / circumstances beyond static EA‑predicted ceilings) is not included in FC 26. It has been delayed until FC 27.
📊 Examples of Potential / Young Players to Watch
Here are some players often cited as having strong potential in FC 26:
| Player | Club | Approx Current Rating / Potential |
|---|---|---|
| Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | Expected potential ~ 92+ |
| João Neves | PSG | Potential of ~ 89 |
| Kenan Yildiz | Juventus | Potential ~ 89 |
| Antonio Nusa | RB Leipzig | Potential ~ 88 |
| Ethan Nwaneri | Arsenal | Potential ~ 87 |
These are just illustrations; your results might vary depending on how you manage them.
💡 Tips to Maximize a Player’s Potential
Since FC 26 gives more tools, here are strategies you can use to help players reach their ceilings:
Regular Game Time
Give your younger/high potential players enough minutes each season. Bench them only when necessary, use them often, possibly send them on good loan spells if your first team is too strong.
Good Training & Youth Academy
Use training modules / drills to target their weak areas. If FC 26 has better youth academy matches or mentorship, use those.
Morale, Personality & Unexpected Events
Manage morale (play them, treat them well). Avoid leaving them out cold. Be aware unexpected events may hurt growth (injuries, etc.).
Scouting & Long‑Term Planning
Use scouting reports, watch other simulated leagues, pick younger hidden gems with high ceilings but modest start. Buying early when they’re cheaper is more cost‑effective.
Match Difficulty / Game Preset
Authentic preset likely makes growth feel more realistic but maybe slower. If you want faster growth, you might tweak settings or play more aggressively.
